they told me vebally and in a written letter that I needed good cause other than just 'self defense', and suggested in writing that I withdraw from the process (I was half way through the process when Peruta was withdrawn) if I didnt have additional good cause. Are you saying that you had no specific justification for "personal protection" other than the words "self defense"?

Did you receive a conditional approval letter to move forward with training before they sent you that letter?

Sadly this makes sense based on timing... OCSD said all those using self defense as GC that were approved for training before Pureta went en banc would continue on. Those in process, but not yet approved, would need add'l GC reasons.

The timing doesn't make sense, that person had their interview on 3/24, rehearing happened on 3/26, unless he got his conditional approval letter to move on with training the next day then sure, but realistically it doesn't make sense. He got very lucky if he passed with self defense as his good cause.

Don't expect anything to make sense with the process. It's OCSD's world, we just live in it.

No, I had not received the conditional approval letter yet.
I had my first interview in mid March, resident check completed a week later, then I received that letter stating that I now needed good cause other than just self defense.

One thing bugs me. No one could file an application until the interview and if your interview date came after the three judge panel decision your desire to carry for self defense was accepted as good cause even if you didn't have a heightened need. But even if you had a higher need than that applicant, but you were prevented from getting a decision on your application due to logistics, your good cause is found insufficient for a LTC.

Interesting that you got the same comment from your OCSD rep. I just gave a written GC and kept moving forward. Was surprised when I received the conditional letter a couple weeks ago. Final meeting only took 10min. Just went in and dropped off the check and signed some papers.

There is no set good cause that can be determined to be accepted or denied. That is totally up to you. But I can tell you that "almost anything" outside of self-defense will pretty much work. Just be articulate, concise, and truthful.

Just an observation. She completed her livescan and is awaiting her training date.

Seems that the threshold is still pretty low.

Once you guys get this sorted out (a track record, so to speak, one way or the other), let me know.

When she went in to turn in her application with a supplemental good cause, the deputy returned the addendum (additional, typed page) to her and did not include it in the application. I guess she got lucky, per se....

Yeah, until we build up a track record of this being the case in OC (or there's some sort of official announcement), best to just assume the deputy was tired and had a "brain hiccup", or was in an especially good mood.
