Deny ccw in occ due to camping/photography good cause statemtn

So I did my interview, live scan, and everything require before doing the interview. Then, I got a call from the sheriff that say my good cause statement is not good enough.
Just beware that hiking/photography in orange county is little bit hard to get your ccw with. They usually want you to get it if it requires by your job.

Is it possible to change my good cause statement to something else since the sheriff did me a favor? She said that I should focus on building my photography portfolio and get some invoices. However, I don't want to wait that long just for that.

Photography is just a hobby and I don't really make money with it. I do have good equipment, but not as gucci like film movie status.

Can I do a different good cause saying i go outdoor and shoot guns in blm land. Also listing my expensive guns like my gucci ak and ar 15. Thank you. Also I am willing to share my good cause statement to see if I did something wrong. Thank you

Saying Photography is "hard" is just incorrect. I know photographers that have their CCW. It's their full time job. I'm not sure why you would state it in your GC if it's just a hobby.

Same goes with expensive guns and visiting BLM land. Those are hobbies/interests. The point of the GC statement is to state why you are at risk on a consistent basis. Mentioning "gucci AK" just sounds like you want a CCW to have a CCW, it does not work like that.

You then admit you do not have the patience to properly put together a portfolio with invoices after the Sheriff was kind enough to help guide you in the proper direction. I advise you to listen to their advice instead of trying to cut corners and possibly get denied again.

Initial application was submitted in late January and my interview is scheduled for next week, exactly 6 months. What can I expect during this half-hour zoom interview? aside from going through my file, are they going to ask me any questions that I should be prepared for in advance?

Sheriff Hutchens required an elaborate good cause to give herself legal cover for issuing a CCW. Barnes does not have to follow suit. It is all a farce anyway in that practically anything one puts down is considered a good cause to issue. However, it is not necessary when bunch of other counties do use just "SD" as good cause. All it does is add more time to processing.
100% agree but the Sheriff dictates the rules.

Anyone know the time frame for “adding a gun?” Or have done it recently?

That's 82 days to add a firearm. In hindsight, I should've applied to add the firearm right when I got it instead of waiting until I had qualified with the firearm and got the certification in hand.

That may be correct. I remember last renewal was Paid at time of pickup. Coming up on 4 months fast, which seems a long time.

I recall it specifically states not to pay online, but the online system does not prevent you from paying online during the application process.

A few weeks before your interview, you will be refunded the online payment amount and then given an additional supporting document list to upload. After the interview, assuming you pass, you will be instructed to perform your LiveScan and complete your CCW training.

I know of people completing their LiveScan and Training PRIOR to the interview, but OCSD specifically recommends against this. I was told it is because they do not want people to complain about being out money if they are denied.

That's why the very last step to getting your permit is paying for it over the phone.

So I submitted my Initial OC CCW Application on 7/22/21. My interview date is 12/8/21. Haven't done training and live scan yet. However, today on 8/2/21, I had my payment refunded and interview rescheduled to 9/22/21. So do you recommend not to do the training and live scan until after my interview on 9/22/21?

^^ You should do your livescan at least.

You can do your training if you want but you can still wait until after your interview to do so.

Awesome, thanks. And do I need to do the livescan closer to interview date or now is fine?

                              Now is fine.

It takes several weeks for the firearms portion to clear.
