Michael Schwartz and The San Diego County Gun Owner's Association have done some great work on this. Check out the business and personal links about half-way down this page:

Would being around people who consistently receive death threats, and being a possibility of myself being a target, be considered "Good Cause" in LA County?

I just moved to OC and I definitely want to get a CCW. Here's my situation... I currently work in executive protection and my client is a well known supporter and activist regarding the Israel/Palestine conflict. Due to recent events, my client has received numerous threats, and when the principal goes out in public, I often join the said person.

My issue is that even if I have good cause, my company takes client confidentiality very serious and I know that you are require to provide proof of some sort to support your good cause.

How could I provide proof that I am around vulnerable people in public without breaking confidentiality? or should I scratch that and find a better use of good cause, since I will not be able to say who I am assigned to?

                  Thank you.

So do you live in Los Angeles County or Orange County?

Just feels strange that someone who works security detail with supposed celebrities and high risk people would be in this situation. I know people who are in similar occupations and being that they are already in that position this isn't a question that comes up now.

Just moved from LA to OC about a month ago. Also not everyone in our business has a ccw, as some of our clients don't necessary feel the need for us to carry outside of their home.

                          First, congratulations.

Wow, you started initial application on 3/26. I started my renewal application on 3/21. Completed everything including the renewal class and uploaded certificate end of May.

Crickets... Still sitting on the first step ("Order started") at application site.

When I sent OCSD CCW unit an email asking for status when I hit 90 days they said it is first come, first served and not to bug them.

I guess they are prioritizing initial applications over renewals.

Submitted Renewal Application 4/5 and training completed shortly after. So three months later still waiting for assigned processor...

Well, that's concerning for people that need their renewals because they have a higher than average risk. How does it even make sense to let people whom you've agreed have enough of a reason to carry, lose that ability to protect themselves due to a shortcoming on the IAs part. At the very least, they should have a minimum number of investigators that are solely dedicated to processing renewals. Imagine a single mom losing her CCW that she got because her ex was abusive and then she's attacked in that interim period between the expiration and her renewal issuance by said scumbag.

You are correct, renewals should take priority. both because they are people with a proven need and should have about a 100% approval, and the fact that they should take fewer resources per application and therefore are a more efficient use of limited resources.
