Congrats! We are blessed to have our sheriff, at least compared to some other counties

I need to get a CCW class and am looking for one that actually teaches something and doesn't just punch your qualification card. On Target in Laguna Hills might fill the bill though I question its requirement that you bring cleaning supplies so that the instructor can observe you cleaing your primary handgun, and it will be very difficult to fit my schedule to theirs. Can anyone recommend other places that actually teach defense shooting along with their CCW course? Preferably in South County, but I will travel to a worthwhile class.

I had a great experience with Ben Hansen at Hansen Firearms Training. Not in South County, but worth the drive (to Huntington Beach and Orange) in my opinion.

I don't think that is a reasonable expectation unless you're willing to pay for something semi-private or private.

In the classes and renewals I have attended there is usually a mix of students, from some who hardly seem to be familiar with their firearm(s) to seasoned shooters, some of whom may view the qualification as an opportunity to show off just how qualified they are. The people who monitor the qualification might be employees of the instructor, or maybe the instructor(s) themselves, but I surmise mainly what they care about is having each student get 72 qualifying rounds through the first gun and 20 for every additional gun, on target, and getting home without someone getting shot or injured.

The instructors are happy to sell you additional training, but if you're paying $150-$200 for your initial qualifying course, there's not a lot of incentive for them to make the qualification something more than just a qualification.

Unrelated, there was an article about a week or two back regarding how a new law gives Barnes another two years without another election.

It appears to be a leftist maneuver to get more dems voting so that sheriffs like Barnes and Bianco will be unable to get elected or re-elected.

The primary goal of the CCW class is really to get your through the required curriculum and quals. It would be unreasonable to expect any serious instructions outside of the curriculum scope. You can be better off taking the narrow-tailored classes in addition to your CCW class. Alternatively, some of the instructors run 16 hour CCW class, where they have more time to address various concerns. Usually, the 16 hour class cost more than 8 hour class

Artemis in Lake Forest has a 16 hour CCW class and also has vast other training both in a simulator and live fire.

They do, and the training can be good; as with anything, you get what you pay for. Two people in the VirTra300 is $180/hour, the same cost for one person to do an hour of virtual reality training.

You can get a sense of what they offer on the VirTra300 from the videos below. Trainers are typically retired LEOs or ex-military or both. Our experience has been positive; we thought they did a great job, will be returning.

If you want to save a bit they usually have a black Friday sale, half off the regular price.

Far as I know, they do not use the shocker anymore when you get "hit" with returned fire from the bad guys in the VirTra300, but they did when these videos were shot. I suppose you could request it if you wanted it.

Their YouTube channel is pretty active, you can get a sense of their offerings by browsing their videos.

Thanks all for thoughts on CCW qualification courses and I now plan on taking in additional training classes. I may get some in even before doing the CCW qualifier.

Hello, guys! I wasn't sure where to post or ask this but:

Is it legal to carry an p365 xmacro with its 17rd mag in CA?

I understand it’s legal to own and use larger capacity magazines if they were purchased during freedom week. However, the xmacro came out only just a few months ago and I’m not quite sure if that ruling goes for it. I just purchased an off roster xmacro and am in the process of getting my ccw permit. This question was raised by a couple buddies of mine and now I’m not quite so confident if I can even legally CCW the xmacro now.

                            Thanks in advance, guys!

Can’t do it since it wasn’t bought during freedom week and didn’t yet exist, similar to the Hellcat.

Unless you’re exempt, you wouldn’t be able to own those magazines unless you blocked them. I personally wouldn’t carry them.

Yeah. You're right ;_;. I'm coming to terms with reality :'). At least I have a really cool xmacro to shoot at the range until something changes so that I can add them onto the permit.
