Do it as close to 120 days as possible. It has been 90 days since I applied for my renewal, still has not been assigned to anyone. I have 23 days left before mine expires. I have a feeling it will expire before it gets renewed.

I have submitted all paperwork including training at the online portal.

Does anyone know if it's required to carry ID (in addition to my CCW permit) when carrying? I can't find anything in the permit terms about this. I sometimes want to carry when exercising etc., when I usually don't carry ID. I know I can ask the Sheriff's Department but just wondering if it's a question anyone already knows the answer to.

Are you saying that you'll carry a 2 pound gun while exercising, but do not want to carry your ID? You'll have to carry your permit anyway -- just keep your ID wherever your permit is.

Well not a 2 pound gun in my case . . . don't think I'd carry one that heavy.

But you're right, the ID doesn't add weight. I think I'll look for a very thin wallet/credit card holder and just put the CCW and ID in there when I don't want to carry the whole wallet.

Just got my renewal approved, they were not kidding on getting your renewal submitted asap.

Class and all docks uploaded 2/27
            Approval email and payment 6/22

If you are looking to renew make sure you submit 120 days in advance with all your documentation as they need all the time they can get.

I guess I should've read the most recent pages in this thread. Submitted my renewal 3/25/2021, and my permit expires 6/25. No progression so far.

Hey guys, the day has finally come:

12/15/2020 - Submitted Online Application w/ Requested Documents
06/05/2021 - Submitted Additional Requested Supporting Documents
06/07/2021 - Competed Live Scan (was told 4-5 weeks for completion)
                        06/10/2021 - Interview
                        06/17/2021 - Completed CCW Training
06/22/2021 - Live Scan Complete, Approval Granted, Paid Fees
                        06/25/2021 - Received Permit

I will admit, I was pretty bummed I was unable to move my appointment up after trying multiple times a day for 3 months, but after I stopped worrying about missing an opening the last 3 months flew by.

Big shout out to the employees at OCSD for all their help. Everyone I dealt with directly was very patient and professional.

Thanks to all of the great info here on this site I've got my first CCW license. Here's my timeline.

                            2.26.21 - application sub'd
4.28.21 - appt rescheduled (by OCSD) to may 22 (from Aug 19)
5.22.21 - appt complete, pending GC documentation, picture, livescan, 8h class
6.25.21 - submitted above docs around noon
                            6.25.21 - 330pm received approval
                            6.30.21 - payment submitted.

I tried rescheduling my appointment a few times but was never successful in finding a new one. Was super happy to see them move me up themselves. Was interesting that the interview was on a saturday.

From my conversation with IA - OCSD seems to be prioritizing new applicants. She advised that if I was planning on adding guns to do it on the initial as those are averaging 120 days currently. I could have probably had all my ducks in a row early June but decided to get another gun so pushed my class back.

                            Hope this info helps!

                              Good cause examples

                              Hi all,

I'm looking to apply for my OC CCW soon, but I'm not quite sure what to use for my good cause. I was wondering if some people wouldn't mind posting common good causes that are used. Maybe one would apply to me...

                              Thank you!
