Online at OCSD it says "assigning to processor shortly" . There has not been a change in over a month.

DOJ Live scan hotline says "California in Process, FBI in Process".

Patiently waiting but only hearing crickets.
Interesting. After reading this I checked on line and mine has changed. It now indicates "Assigned to Processor / Processing Order". Earlier today I was contacted by the CCW Unit for further information. From what I gathered at the time, the CCW Unit is working hard to process our applications.

Forget that the DOJ says those are in process. Mine said the same for awhile and then it switched to

      CA In Progress
      FBI In Progress
      Firearms In Progress
That is cut and pasted from the DOJ on line Applicant Background Check Status web page. It is a lot faster than telephoning the robot.

Meanwhile, I know that the CCW Unit has had the scan results for well over a month. Like others have said, chill.

Could someone give a rough estimate of how much it costs to get the CCW (training, livescan, application, etc)? I am moving to Irvine in a few months and debating whether it's something I can afford or not. Thanks!

Initial permit payable to OCSD - $111
          Livescan - $98 + operator rolling fees
Training - $160-240 depending on your provider. You must also do a live fire during training in which you'll need at least 72 rounds of your primary firearm caliber, plus 20 rounds per gun you want added to your permit.

My Cut and Paste from the web page states:
            CA Completed - 12/22/2017
            FBI Completed - 12/22/2017
            Firearms Completed - 12/28/2017

So it is just the wait time at OCSD. I will be patient

You don't have to pay that all at once.

OCSD doesn't have you pay the fee to it until your license is approved.

Some think you will get approval quicker if you do your firearms training and your live scan before you go to your interview. If for any reason you doubt that it will be approved, you may want to wait until after the initial interview to do them. Not always, but most report having a very good idea that they will be conditionally approved after that initial interview.

If you have any question that your good cause is acceptable, you may want to wait until you receive email notifying you that your good cause has been conditionally approved and that you should do your weapons training and scan as soon as possible.

OC is pretty liberal in approving good cause.

But it's fast. And online, so you don't wait for a class schedule, nor for everyone else in the class, and you can do it at YOUR convenience.

It works so well OCSD is looking at his program to model the entire process after. And he has other training entities booking him for video production.

And anyway, compared to what exactly?

It adds up to about four or five hundred, plus most permittees get a dedicated carry weapon, and if you really do carry you'll want some criminal and civil liability insurance. So figure a thousand to fifteen hundred all in.

I think I paid $100 max at my last renewal and I met with the instructor for maybe 30 minutes

Also they want 19,99 per 3 guns and I have 4

As you get older, as a gun owner, you're gonna buy those anyway...especially the bigger pants.

The OCSD renewal training requirement is 4 hours.

                              Mike's renewal training is $139 at SafeInsight.net
I guess that 'seems a little expensive' to you. Oh well. Perhaps you were hoping for a race to the bottom.

It remains an option for others gathering everything they need for their renewal. And the epitome of convenience. I know first hand their program is highly successful and well liked by all involved, including OCSD.

Mike, the founder of SafeInsight, is a retired LEO that has and does firearms training all around the country, not only for CCW permits, but security firms, and for armed response to active shooters at banks, churches, and etc. This is someone well versed in firearms and security. You're in good hands!
