A 'race to the bottom' is competing industries or services that keep undercutting price until no one can make it.

They have put countless hours into the training material, so there's that. The intention is that it is fair and competitive.

And yes, Mike is my eldest daughter's husband. I like to see that he gets a fair shake here, or a shameless plug. That is all.

If you're not sure you can afford a permit you probably shouldn't be moving to Irvine. [emoji4]

I will pass your comment along.

BTW, he has published a book on shooting and marksmanship you may find worthwhile - BORN TO SHOOT - How To Be A Natural Marksman. Find it at their website, it's an 'electronic' book.

I just got a copy and find it's pretty good. In fact he addresses some of these same concerns you have.

Had my interview today actually. Went well. Everybody was super friendly and nice. Like super friendly. I am impressed OCSD. You have an excellent CCW unit.

So, did they tell you to revise your GC?

Likely it's fine. They are not rejecting GC statements - you just to have one!

I’m trying to remember what the online training said was the only allowable mods to your ccw gun. Is it sights and grips only? Would they frown on things like an undercut trigger guard on a Glock?

                        That would be fine.

I'm in the process now and currently waiting for the reply from the OCSD. The consensus from what I've gathered is to start the renewal process 60 days prior to the expiration of the permit. OCSD has an on-line application that you fill out and digitally sign. You will need a copy of your DL, at least two proof of residency documents, the list of firearms including SN's on your CCW permit (you are no longer limited to 3), an updated GC statement (the reason I say updated is due to the fact that it needs to be dated with the current date and you should really scan through it to make any relevant changes) and any other relevant documents to support you CG statement, the training certificate which can be uploaded at any time during your waiting period or prior to picking up you CCW, and finally your payment to OCSD when you pick up the CCW.

OCSD isn't nearly concerned about what mods you do to your permitted weapons as a prosecutor would be, should you actually have to use it to defend yourself. Good shoot or not - if you have modified it to enhance its offensive capacity they could well use that against you. You don't want to be in a place where you have to explain to a jury why you lightened the trigger pull on your firearm.

This thread may shed more light: https://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/...d.php?t=951471
I got a dead link for the document(s) at OCSD in the first few responses.

Browneye, The thread you linked to is a little dated (2014?) given what at least one qualification instructor told a class a couple months back; that due to all the internet chatter as to what modifications Orange County will permit it is more concerned about mods. Sights and grips were no problem, possible lights but I don't really recall that, but nothing affecting function; especially no trigger modifications. I take that to include Apex triggers for the Shield.
