6/6/22 - License pickup call. I was working out of town so I wasn’t available. Asked to re-schedule.

After more than a year from application submission, I will finally be picking up.

Why did you do your training so soon? You have to wait for LASD to direct you to do so.

Yes, I know that now. My CCW trainer told me to get everything done ASAP. I followed what they said. Now of course I know better.

My prior interview was last year, so I had to deal with the GC, bringing proof/etc. Not sure how it should be now

NEWBIES: If you are new to this forum, I can save you the reading and the questioning on how to apply for CCW in LA County.

Register for my Sunday webinars, where I take you step by step through the application and what to expect in the entire process:

                  - How to fill out the application
                  - Mistakes to avoid in the process
                  - What to expect at the interview
                  - Training requirements

We had 16 folks join the zoom call last night and the next webinars will be Sun, Aug 7 and Sun, Aug 21.

The community here was really helpful to me last year when I applied, and seeing the tons of new folks asking the same questions over and over, I'm trying to do my part to help as many folks get the information they need.

                    Applied 6/3/22
                    Check cashed 7/22/22

I know its about a year wait. Should I get my training and live scan done now? I heard training is good for a year. How long is the livescan good for?

If I were you I would wait until the interview. The reason is based on the new Supreme Court ruling, there are a couple of pending cases, one of them is the CA handgun roster. By the time of your interview, you might get the chance to upgrade your CC firearm with a better handgun on your training day.

When I applied a year ago, people here said it would be a 3-month wait. At this point, it would be pure speculation. I would hold off until further developments, unless you have a couple hundred dollars to burn.

So I applied and interviewed before the SC ruling, but was never given the go ahead to do my livescan (additional documentation submitted as requested), and have still not been given the go ahead for livescan. Should I just do it given this ruling, or wait? Last communication was on 6/27 with interviewing Deputy asking for documentation(s)

I did a search on this thread and found early posts stating training is good for 6 months. Also, as some have pointed out, the 8hr class may no longer be valid if SB-918 passes. I could not find any "expiration" date on livescan, but that doesn't mean the sheriffs department doesn't have one. As of right now livescan takes 3-4 months to clear (I am currently in week 14).

With SB-918, the streamlined app process (supposedly) being developed, and the significant increase in applications, there is a LOT up in the air right now.

As others have said above, if you can afford to do both of them over again, then go for it. Livescan is def the lesser risk, given its long queue time. Personally, I am waiting for things to shake out before I do training.
