Is an interview mandatory before a decision is made or can they reject because the GC does not meet any established criteria?

I just got the call but I wasn't able to pick up. I don't transport money and there's no credible threat to my life. Part of me just thinks I'm wasting my time and wasting the time of the interviewer should I go in for the interview unless they've approved my app for an interview with GC.

I was at the park with my kids and got a call from an unknown number. By the time I tried answering it was too late. They did not leave a voicemail though. they received my application 4/15 and cashed the check two weeks later before the end of April. I feel it was the LASD but they did not leave a VM. don't know what to do.

I included both. While recreational was good, it was not enough i was told. So we are leaning on my work related now.

Yup. If you use the search function on this thread and type in "real estate" and read the last maybe 40 responses with keywords. Your GC will basically write itself.

If you follow my CCW Application Advice thread pinned at the top of this forum you have a solid chance of getting issued. Read all of my posts in it.

My firearms portion has been done since 5/1. The only response I received from the CCW unit is that it could take a few weeks for DOJ to mail them results. Yet there are now 2 people I know of that interviewed and cleared livescan after me that have had their appointments to pick up their CCW.

Can you share more about the recreational risks that were judged not enough? It will help us bracket where that line might be.

Real estate is a well-worn path for a permit in San Diego. You can check out the SDCGO site for a specific example of one or more real estate related GC statements. In fact Sheriff Gore said it was the needs of a real estate agent that convinced him to start issuing permits.
