    I need a LIFE!!

A CGNer asked me to post this for them.

I sent in my renewal application + money order six weeks ago. I got a call today from a private number and a deputy asked if she could interview me over the phone, and it would take about 15 minutes. I said yes and we started the interview. She went over everything on the app. Some of the questions were repetitive, but it was fast.

Obviously the good cause statement is no longer on the app, but they did want me to put a statement of why I wanted the CCW in the Additional Information box on page 10. She said "self defense" or similar would be fine. I revised page 10 and sent it to her. I would recommend that everyone renewing or applying in LA County should put something like that in the Additional Information box, so you won't have to send it in again.

I have already done the LA county training and she said that was valid so long as it's within the past 12 months so I'm good on that.

I would not have to do livescan again; the previous livescan can be refreshed by them somehow.

Overall, very convenient and reasonable process so far. I'm very happy I renewed with the county.

6/23/22: Supreme Court Bruen Decision came out. Called LAPD for appointment. (mailed my LA County Sheriff's app same day; still have not heard a word of acknowledgment from LA Sheriff. Was seeing which agency was faster)

10/5/22: LAPD interview and submitted revised application (no good cause needed. I also had a speeding ticket that I took care of with traffic school in 2020 but the interviewer did not mention it; also I listed my 15 non resident CCWs, the interview saw it but did not say anything either). Interviewer said I was the First to interview under the new standard. Live scan submission same afternoon on way home I found a place that does it.

10/9/22: 8-hr training class completed (technically I should have waited until I was approved but took a risk to get it out of the way and get the CCW faster)

12/6/22: LAPD officer called me and said I was "approved" and now I can take the CCW course. I said I took it already. She said email me the certificate. I did.

Now I wait for LAPD to call me to come in and pick up my CCW and pay the rest of the fee.
      12/15/22 UPDATE:

Received a letter in the mail (signed by Chief Moore or probably someone else designated to sign for him) repeating the 12/6 phone call I got from the LAPD officer. I am approved based on (1) resident of LA (2) good moral character and now I need to fulfill (3) firearm training which I did already and on the 12/6 phone call provided the officer with the proof of training. The letter has the Captain of the Gang/Narcotics unit phone #, probably not direct but some station's #. So it's official and wow, never thought I'd see this day when I get an approval letter from the L.A.P.D. for CCW.

Have been watching this thread closely and almost always seemed like LA was at the top of the list of activity. Now it seems like progress posts have dropped off substantially; hoping it's nothing to do with the new Sherriff and more to do with the revised letterhead and upcoming holidays.

Also just posting to gently remind everyone about a timeline database to fill in any info you might want to regarding LASD approval process:

I understand. I wonder if they have even ordered the cards and letterhead or are they waiting.

Anybody amended their permit to add a pistol? I want to add one more to mine. Was just curious to see what the lead time was on that.

I would advise applicants to carefully choose your CCW firearms to list since once it is on there it'll be a hassle to update until the next renewal since LAPD is so busy with CCW issuances.

I have 3 fairly flat firearms selected based on caliber and concealment to use in no particular order depending on circumstances but deliberately with forethought chose these 3 to list:

                                -Colt Combat Commander 45 ACP
                                -Kahr PM9 (9 mm)
                                -Kahr P380 (9mm short or .380)
