Just made an appointment, they are now 3 months out. This is for LAPD.

      3 months out here too.

Sucks to wait 3 months to go to an interview and wait up to 90 days just to get denied and start the LASD process

Be thankful. Mine took 11 MONTHS from calling for an appt. to issuance.

I am gonna keep reading backwards on this thread, but does anyone know if living in a bad area with increased gang violence/shootings is an acceptable GC? Seems like there’s more than the usual gang graffiti in my neighborhood and they seem to be crossing each other out and fighting over territory. A lot more shootings in the areas I frequent (grocery shopping, getting gas, etc.).

I also like to do some hikes with my wife and dog in semi-secluded areas. That was an unconfirmed GC I read a page or two back. I just don’t feel safe in my neighborhood walking my dog anymore, used to do 2 walks a day, now I have to go to a nicer area about 15 mins away.

I would probably have to apply to the LASD Industry station area or the West Covina PD. If anyone has any insight on how I could document these types of GC help me out.

          Thanks!

You can try using the LASD's own crime statistics:

The data contained in the downloadable files undergo a series of processes and validation measures to meet the UCR Program’s Summary Reporting System (SRS) reporting guidelines.

Make note of any increases in your neighborhood, especially violent crimes. Also give detailed descriptions of any crimes you may have witnessed as well as any attempts by criminals to target you. It doesn't matter if you have a police report or any other documentation or not. If it happened, include it in your good cause statement. Be as detailed as you can.

              @Paladin

Do we have an idea of how many approvals went through LAPD? It seems like all of these permits are from LASD.

I'm wondering if LAPD is following AV's new mind set. Or if LAPDs process is still just a dead end

Some. Depending where you live, you can apply directly to LASD.

I'm apart of that group that has to go through LAPD first.

Yes, no one on this thread has posted that he has gotten issued through LAPD. The only reference I could find to recent LAPD permits was they issued two, presumably to the Botach family, and they were highly restricted.

LAPD does issue but it's super-rare. If you have an amazingly strong good cause, like you have testified against Los Zetas and helped put a cartel leader in prison and you're getting death threats from them, then yeah, LAPD would probably issue for that. The Botach brothers are machine gun dealers and their permits were restricted to while transporting MGs only. So that gives you an idea of the level of hope you should have with LAPD.

Haven't seen any indication so far that LAPD is following AV's lead on this. From my limited information, I would say LAPD is just an annoying speed bump (delay) for 99.9% of people who want a CCW.

Read this thread backwards. It's all been covered, unfortunately spread across multiple posts, but it's covered. You have a reasonable chance of getting a permit if you do everything right.

You are in luck, you do NOT need to bother with West Covina PD. If your PD is on this list, you can skip them and apply directly to the sheriff and West Covina is on the list.

If you live in the city of Los Angeles yes you must. Treat it like a rehearsal. Treat it seriously.

No not at all. I mean yes, if you really want an LAPD permit, and one that's restricted to while transporting MGs only, then yes that works but who cares about LAPD? You're applying to them just to get the denial letter (and practice) so you can apply to LASD. You have a reasonably good chance of getting issued by LASD. LASD is regularly issuing to normal people with levels of good cause that are pretty ordinary.

I'm sorry for all those who live in Los Angeles and have to go through the extra steps but if you are persistent and determined, go through that and then apply to LASD and welcome to the club of CCW in California.

I was denied last year. Got a call today saying policy has been updated and wanted to know if I wanted my application re-activated. I said sure, I have my interview next Tuesday.
