How long is your training Cert good for?

In my interview the deputy said on a normal day this deputy does 8-10 interviews per day. The group we have posting on here is very very small in comparison to all apps put in. I follow some CCW training class on social media and there classes are always full. The way I look at is before we had no chance and we all hoped and waited without it being a problem, now we have a good chance of getting issued one and we now just have to wait like before, but the outcome will have a better payoff.

Fake numbers used to convey my opinion: BEFORE AV announced formation of the CCW Unit (and that got news coverage) AND the BOS responded negatively (and that got news coverage) CGN apps were 1 of 5 applicants, NOW we’re 1 of 50. Expect things to take 10x as long as they were.

Unfortunately that change happened at the same time we just got news of Light Green CGNs getting approved. Thus we waited and waited for verification but haven’t heard because we’ve been diluted to a slow trickle.

Hopefully AV will provide more resources to the CCW Unit as needed. There is TON of pent up demand from decades of rarely issuing.

I think we should read between the lines if Villaneuva downsized the unit during the height of applications and manage our expectations.

Well guys we are done. Overall, interview went great, smooth and easy. Dep. was very friendly and easy to talk to. @No.11 that is correct, I was out of town on the day that was originally set for. Here is the update: I was told from this point to possible issuance would be 3-4months. They have 6 deputy’s working the unit at this time but they will be dropping to 4 since some are DI’s and going to run a new academy class. They do have a new LT that is doing approvals and they said she is eagle eyeing for more info or clarification before issuing. I did get a livescan form and was told to proceed with getting that done. The firearms portion she told me to wait until I get an email (just because of the new LT). A little background on my good cause statement: I have a family who are LEOs. My interviewing deputy said I had a good shot. They do pre-screen and talk to each other about case load and application, to see if before they call what they will be asking of you to bring. I was told if I don’t get an email within 2 months to email them. Hope this helps give some insight on the current progress going on with timelines.

Deputy mentioned to a CGN applicant during an interview that they're dropping the staff from 7 to 4.

The 3 deputies are doing something at the academy.

My wife's interview was very rushed. The single deputy had 10 interviews lined up for that one day.

You need to step up your game and start proactively calling the warranty places! You'll never get there if you just wait for them to call you. Pester the crap out of them.

My guess is AV was shifting staff around as best he can since the “defund the police” (and Measure J?) cuts kicked in.

Again, ask if there’s something you/voters can do to help the workflow.

The deputy I interviewed with said his normal job was interviewing/screening LASD candidates. He was only on this because there was a hiring freeze. I very much think AV is just moving different pieces around to staff this unit.
