Too many rifles, not enough time... -
Yeah, and OC has 90% of the Republicans in the state.Things are slooowly improving.... Just in the past few months, San Diego county (pop. 3.4M) went from light red to yellow. While that is not a shade of green, it is a change in the right direction and gets them halfway to light green.
The average law-abiding citizen in Sac and OC can get a CCW and OC is the 3rd most populous county (>3M).Comment

It is correct that a new CCW, when accounting for the cost of the class, the range fee, the ammo, the background checks, application fee, etc., is around $500 in most cases, and they only last 2 years. But the cost of renewal is usually more like $100-$150.
Spanned out over 10 years, it works out to about $85/year, which isn't too bad when you consider that a Netflix subscription is about double that.
Of course, that initial $500 upfront cost is not an easy pill to swallow, for a lot of people. In fact, a good friend of mine has been wanting his for quite a while now, and the only reason he hasn't is that it's too expensive.Last edited by CandG; 02-02-2018, 2:46 PM.Comment

Is this based upon your own application w/SLO sheriff or someone else's?Originally posted by HopalongI think the map is misleading. I know for a fact that it is in my county. Someone in this county gets lucky, and is able to fall into the tiny little crack of acceptance. They get all giddy and report how "easy" it was. Couple that with "wishful thinking", and this is what you get.
One tenth of one percent isn't "easy"
I've sent PMs to the folks in charge here, outlining what is going on with supportive facts. The response was "interesting"
Either way, roughly when was that?
If you go thru the last few pages of the SLO CCW county info, you'll see the sheriff only improved things less than a year ago (last spring, IIRC). So things may have changed since then, IOW, you may be working off of old data.Last edited by Paladin; 02-02-2018, 2:57 PM.Comment

That is where I would disagree. CA law does allow CCWs, but it does not require one to be issued to anyone who asks for one and can pass a background check. That is the difference between SHALL ISSUE and MAY ISSUE. Arguing about it is silly and in the end, both are correct.
Do I like it? Nope Do I think its unconstitutional? YEP! but it is what it is.Comment

I'm not sure there is really much hope for CA in the current political climate as it marches to the far left.
That being said, their is always the idiot in North Korea and the many fault lines that run throughout this state. Any kind of sudden, widespread, debilitating disaster that effectively highlights the states inability to protect its citizens against themselves and attitudes towards self defense and firearms could turn around overnight. Literally.Comment

So here is my question, since you stated that you aren't bashing Ca laws, why post what Ark is doing in a Ca gun forum especially if you don't live in either of those states? Kind of sort of sounds like you are doing exactly what you deny doing trolling.Comment

Nope, no half truths in my posts. The fact is that CA and many other states issue CCWs that allow people to carry in otherwise prohibited locations just like you are claiming that AR is also doing so isn't really news, is it? I did't attack you, I simply made a statement of fact. You still haven't included any details about special places or the special training, which they have to pay, for will allow AR residents to carry in those new places. So, they will need to pay more and have two training classes, that doesn't seem fair, does it? I'm glad to hear that AR is getting a little more CCW friendly but, in many ways CA's CCW laws are still much less restrictive than AR's. In CA, state law allows us to carry in almost all public buildings, including courthouses (with the exception of courtrooms if you are a party to the case being heard). The list of restricted places in AR is exceptionally long.Did you even bother to read the posts ? He started out with NewsFlash and implied what Ark. was doing was no different than what California already does which is BS . Of course in later posts he did walk it back and say well some areas do let some people but only good moral people and they have to pay for it and pay to be trained . I didn't attack him he attacked me . I'm not trying to argue with anyone but when you go on someone's post and make a blank half true statement then insult them and say they need training not having any clue what my background is what can I think other than pompus blowhard . He stated I probably should not be allowed a CCW because I questioned his false naritive , sounds like something Nancy P or Diane F would say . FACT is California doesn't allow CCW they leave it up to local politions to decide . Free states protect citizens from local government infringement .

I never went back and said only some people in CA can get permits (except for prohibited people which is true in any state). The fact is that anyone who is not a prohibited person can get a LTC in CA if they want one. Yes, they may have to live in one of the 44 out of 58 counties that are easier to get a permit in but, if they don't want to live in one of those counties, it's their choice.
Sorry, you're just plain wrong. The FACT is that CA does allow (not guarantee) CCW but, some IAs have a policy of not issuing. That doesn't mean that CA does not ALLOW them to. The FACT is that MANY states leave it up to local LEAs to issue CCWs so, CA isn't alone.
Yes, I will stand behind my statement that anyone who has a severe lack of situational awareness should not be CCWing or even handling firearms. If you disagree, that's your right but, it sure doesn't make it correct or safe for anyone around. Your posts here are all I have to go off, but, no matter what your background or training is, you have demonstrated a severe lack of situational awareness and are upset that I pointed it out to you.
No one is saying that CA has great laws. They are what they are but, you still haven't produced evidence that AR's new policies are any different (yes, every state has different prohibited places and other restrictions) than any other state's (including CA) CCW policies.
I agree that free states protect individual's rights. Unfortunately, your example of AR isn't one of those free states. In fact, AR requires that one pays a pretty hefty sum (in relation to many other states) to obtain a PERMIT which a true free state would not require at all. So, again, your argument is flawed to begin with.NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

Thank you!
Click on either link in my sig line (1 is the main Map thread here on CalGuns, the other is my website) and you will find a large table that goes with the map. It shows how many permits are active per County. Keep in mind that some of the numbers are several years old, actual numbers have been hard to find since the DoJ stopped reporting them to the public back in 2011..
