Congrats to your buddy on a great hunt. And there's another! rifle I never knew I couldn't live without. .308 Marlin! That barrel length, magazine and stock shape is iconic Marlin (.45-70, .444 Marlin) and aesthetically speaking it consists of some of the best proportions of any long gun.

I've got deer tags for both here in Idaho as well as Wyoming in a couple of weeks. I'm thinking very seriously about hunting with my Winchester 25-35 carbine. I wish I had one of your knives to take with me (as they are beautiful and finely crafted), but I'll have to settle for my store-bought ones for now.

I hope yours arrives in a timely manner. I'm starting to think my levers in .357 magnum are not going to happen.
I like the 20" octagonal barrel on that 1873 but I don't own a lever action with a pistol grip stock. I've read that some shooters think the recoil from .41 and .44 magnum is easier to handle with a pistol grip stock. Maybe someone here has experience shooting both.
