I remember as a kid a bucket full of Liberator pistols in my grandmother's basement. I recall the story of her brother bringing them back from some warehouse after the war. Neat stuff.

Haha awesome. That'd be a sight. Not long after I got this one, another showed up on consignment in the local shop. Funny, I'd never seen one in person before and then two in the same week.

Yep, took some extra doing to make them legal, though I don't remember the specifics on that. There are very few out there.

Mine is a Vintage Ordnance replica. They're rifled and inconspicuously serialized, and supposed to be perfectly safe to shoot with ball ammo, and damn near perfect representations. The originals beat themselves up and have an expected service life of something like <50 rounds.

The local shop one that was real, smoothbore, unserialized, and in pretty good condition went for the 1800 asking price in only a couple of days.

How ya doing Chris? Naw, this is a simple house maintenance we've been doing for, what, 30 years. It's an older place in AV that requires such. We go there, do what may be needed, then sit around and leave. If we have time, we'll shoot. But, probably not. Hopefully we can, but, we'll see.

Hey Chris, what engine do you have in your F150?

My truck has the best engine Ford has ever made: the twin-cam, four-valve V8 "Coyote". 5.0 liters. 2016 model year. Advertised 385 HP/387 lb/ft. The aluminum-bodied (2015+) F150 with this engine is amazing (as are the twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 and the 2.7 twin turbo V6 EcoBoost engines).

[Yes, the V6s all have twin-cam cylinder head designs, but this Coyote V8 with the same architecture reminds us of the famous Cosworth DFV. No other American truck maker offers an engine like this]

Coyote 5.0 V8 Design and Development

Beginning in late 2017 and into 2018, the F150 variant of the Coyote had oil consumption issues. Rather than use iron cylinder liners in the alloy block, Ford started (effectively-) 3D printing the liners within the block castings. The bore liners were thin to begin with but when printed they are only like .050" thick. Apparently they didn't get the rings/bore finish right.

My 2016 doesn't use a drop. If you want the V8 I'd look for a '15, '16 or lightly-used '19 or '20. The Coyote 5.0 was offered in the F150 as early as m.y. 2011... but those are steel-bodied trucks weighing almost 700 lbs heavier than the equivalent body style '15+ trucks. That said, I wouldn't be mind owning a '14 if it came down to it.

Put it this way: I love this dang truck. See what's posted on Ford's Certified Pre Owned webpages (I think it's a dealer program, so all trucks are listed according to dealership). It's how I found mine in April of '17 but I had to look through 120 trucks to find it. Everything available had the one of the three V6s in them (the third being the naturally-aspirated 3.5 [3.3 beginning in '17]).

I’m quite a few years out of date about the newer generations of domestic trucks, but I will say with conviction that the truck that Apples drives is the cleanest, best cared for vehicle that I’ve seen anyone daily drive, bar none.
It is cleaner that all the fire apparatus I used to operate and maintain, over a long career.
