You can't see them in these cellphone pics but they are there and it bugs me.
Battle damage is acceptable crappy repair is not
Ya might try WD40 on a cotton ball to remove that tape residue. It cleans some stuff pretty good. Lousy gun oil of course but ain't a bad cleaner for certain things and shouldn't hurt your finish any.

Maybe the electrical tape was a field dressing that helped patch up a wounded friend.
Bob! I like the way you think.

      THIS.

And I was going to recommend using camp fuel/naphtha... but could be borderline harsh to any remaining gloss to an old stock finish.

MOA, Welcome! to the MLC. You're on the roster.

Below: Pietta 1858 Army in 44
Picked up the Savage for $250 because It looked like it fell down the mountain and the forearm was held on with electric tape. It was missing the screw.front of scope has nasty gouge. Dang thing shot dead on first time I took it to the range.

The Rossi I picked up last month and it runs smooth without the feeding or ejection problems I've read about.
The Remington I've had about 10 years, gotta have a smoky whirlenpopper
If I ever get down that way I would be glad to join up with the gang for some desert fun.
nice job saving the model 99, great gun, in .243 no less!

I needs me some savage in my life, might have to knuckle down and go gun hunting again
I started out with nothing - and I still have most of it

Ol' Penn, yeah! He's a real winner.

Again, MOA, welcome to the club.

Perhaps a very light rub of generic paint thinner then a selective reoil rub?

nice! looking on my cellphone now where I can zoom in, yes indeed typical weaver style.. maybe I should put my glasses on more often

typical tasco magnification dials are tapered on both ends, what I mistakenly thought you had..

typical weavers magnification dials are tapered on the the front side only and grip areas are usually slightly thinner..

good score on a vintage weaver, especially the price you paid for the rifle combo..

if I can remember when I'm home I'll see what I can find on that series..

Another Meat on the Smoker Thread Jack

Put a couple of bone-in pork shoulders on the smoker this morning around 6.

Using apple wood pellets. Still have a few hours to go........

                          Bob,
That is certainly competitive with HW's steak cookout pics. Where is my whole wheat hamburger bun when I need it. lol Enjoy!

Got the pork shoulder in the slow cooker. Carnitas tacos later. Just made a complete transverse of the Mojave and other assorted deserts. Road trip with my son to a ranch outside of Brigham City, UT. Picking up his mare that had been bred. 1460 miles round trip, 27 hours.

Sounds like lots of nice scenery on your drive! Nothing like watching the sunrise in the desert.
