For some reason, I also like the short magazine tube on some lever guns. My brother has one of the first Marlin .444s that had a 24-inch barrel with a 3/4 tube. It had a Monte Carlo stock, though, that was weird. It was a very accurate rifle, though.
One that I have always wanted was the Marlin 336 in .35 Rem with the short tube. I saw one at Little John's in Orange once, but it had visible rust in the bore at the muzzle so I did not look further.

I went to a small local show today. At first I was pretty disappointed, as there wasn't much there in my particular areas of interest...... that is, until I hit the last row before going home. There, I found a fellow selling several boxes of discontinued Speer 75gr HotCor .25 caliber bullets. Jacketed, with a lead flat point. These are the favored bullets for .25-20 lever guns in silhouette, and I haven't seen any for sale since Speer announced their discontinuation years ago.

I bought 'em all.

I thought so. I picked up 350 of them for $65, so about 18.5 cents apiece. I'm good with that.

I may or may not have acquired another Henry 22 today, as well as a little old Rossi 62a in great shape. That way I can mostly retire my old old Win 1906 and first year 1890, to keep them in good shape but still have hella fun with a gallery gun. 😁

My son loves my/"his" Rossi pump. It is his favorite rimfire rifle since he has outgrown his Henry Youth model. He has bagged many a jackrabbit and ground squirrel with it.

A friend has a Rossi 22 pump. Any time we go shooting, my 10/22 sits while I shoot his rifle. A 22lr pump is on my short list. They really are a ton of fun to shoot! And his is a lot more accurate than stock iron sight 10/22.

I have had a lot of fun shooting mine. Plenty accurate with factory sights, very reliable. About the only upgrade it needs is a sling.

this model 1890 was my first 'my' gun handed down to me..

it's a mismatch of 1900/1911 serials, somewhat common with gallery guns I've read..

they were disassembled for cleaning, transportation, storage, whatever and put back without regard for serials..

.22 long stamped and chambered barrel and .22 short cartridge lifter..

already discussed with a Winchester expert on here several remedies when I get around to it..

I used this gun primarily for bullfrogs, quiet and cheap, and dispatched 'em cleanly..

and reached a little further so I spent less time in the mud than with my pole gig alone

So I have four projectiles to play with for upcoming 30-30 loads.

110 grain cast Hunter’s Supply

165 grain coated Missouri Bullets

160 grain Hornady FTC

140 grain Hornady Monoflex

I have the following powders to play with:

Varget
Benchmark
IMR 4227
H335

I’m planning on loading 20 of each bullet with 4 different powder charges to see which gives the best 5 shot group. The only one I really want to make sure I get a good load with is the Monoflex so I have a CA legal hunting round, the rest will just be plinkers and I’ll stick with whichever one works best for plinking.

Anyone have any load suggestions?
