Well that was exciting, I managed to break two 30 cal decapping pins within 100 rounds. I was cranking through 38/357 brass with no problems but I guess I need to slow my roll a bit with 30-30.

      Nope.
I overpaid but this one sure seems nicer than most that I keep missing in the mid treefiddies and some have sold into the fives that didnt look as good.

      The buy-it-now price was comical.

Love those comical BIN prices. $420 seems pretty decent for an S&W anything.

Here’s some pics of the 1936 after I cleaned it up. All but one of the pics have been doctored to show color detail.

Outstanding! Have you had a chance to shoot it yet?

I still have to drag mine out and get pictures for show and tell. Maybe today.

Nice grab. So - "new in box". Are you gonna shoot it?

There is some decent case color left on that rifle. Nice.
Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

So, I finally brought the 1936 out to the garage for a photo session. Here goes:

Next set of Model 1936 photos:

Just discovered that my Dad had filed two notches in the butt plate. Probably the first two deer he got with this rifle (there were many, many more - can't find any more notches):

                        The obligatory JM stamp:

Thanks! My Dad hunted with it for maybe 15 years until he was able to get a Winchester Model 88 in .308. This got "handed" down to me when I was in high school and began deer hunting with my Dad. Then I bought a Savage 99 in .308 and this got "handed" down to my little brother (two years younger than me).

Years later, my eldest son started hunting with this rifle and I had my 336CS (sold the 99 many years ago). Then my youngest son hunted with this rifle and finally my daughter (younger yet).

A few things I remember about this rifle. The firing pin is fragile and will break easily if dry fired. My brother and I did that twice. My Dad, for some reason bobbed the hammer (he never mounted a scope on it - would have been blasphemy according to him). He always sighted it in at 200 yards, tough to do with those buckhorn open sights.

I can't remember the last time I shot this rifle. Time to take it to the range along with my 336CS that I bought in 1994.

Good to know about the firing pin, I dry fired it a couple times last night, but I will cease hat behavior.

The trigger is pretty damn heavy and has a slightly gritty feel to the initial pull. I would like to clean that up a bit if possible.

The Crew is really getting some nice lever guns
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.
