I have a 9422M and it outshoots every .22 Mag rifle I have ever fired. It shoots better than Marlin or Savage bolt actions in that caliber. A CZ might give it a run for its money, though. Mine is the plain Jane, uncheckered model. I have not compared it to a Henry, either.

I understand that Henry will pretty much send you a metal front sight/barrel band if you request one....

I know they will send you/ME a set of furniture if your not happy. Hell!! Even if you are happy
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

So - I just snagged a 94/22M off of GunBroker. It's kind of a Pugsley, but the price was right and I think it'll clean up nicely.

My confusion, in this matter, is what is the difference with a short action versus a standard action? I came to this post because there are so many people with a lot of knowledge regarding lever action rifles and I have not found an answer to this via an internet search. Thank you all for your time.

"Short action" vs "long action" refers mostly to bolt-action rifles. For example, it requires a longer action to chamber a .30-06 whereas the historically-younger .308 Winchester can be chambered in a shorter action, reducing overall rifle weight.

As this pertains to *one* particular caliber chambering (i.e., either .357 or .44, let's say) in a lever-action rifle or carbine, then the way it's put is, "short stroke" vs. a regular stroke action.

Short stroke actions are a "race" or cowboy-action-shooting-competition modification to reduce the motion and therefore the time between each shot.

Short-stroking the action is not something anyone can just do at home, I believe. It should require some rather involved modification to the firearm's original action.

Obviously, there are manufacturers (like some of the Italians) that offer short-stroke action models of their lever action long guns.

                Congrats! and, "you suck!"

*I* had some luck yesterday after a heads-up given us by Randy B./W.R.Buchanan in another thread, and was able to drive a couple hours (1 hour, 50 mins) to go purchase from a small-town hardware store some .41 Magnum in NEW Starline brass at 50% off (customer consignment).

Came home with 636 rounds (just counted 'em this morning). One 250-round can of LAX New Manufactured, one 236-round can of same, five 20-round boxes of Hornady commercial loads featuring their 210 gr XTP (to 1115fps) and 50 rounds of Remington HTP/High Terminal Performance 210 grain SJFP. The Rem loads were previously priced at $70.00/50 rounds. Overall, and after tax, I paid .62 per round.

If I were able to purchase more of this LAX New Manufactured (loaded with a plated truncated cone bullet to 966 fps), I would have had to pay, after tax, 1.23/round. So I guess it was worth the $45 I spent in gas, and the hour I spent afterward at Randy's shop? Priceless.

Short stroke actions are a "race" or cowboy-action-shooting-competition modification to reduce the motion *required to cycle the action, necessary to eject then feed another cartridge into the chamber* and therefore the time between each shot.

Whatever .357 lever action you buy, it will chamber and shoot your .357 rounds. More than likely, .38 spl ammo also. You shouldn't have anything to be concerned with.

It's pretty ugly, but I'm a sucker for a project. I'll do a "before and after" on it when I get it in-hand. It's coming from Texas, and I'm in Idaho. I'll give you another chance to say "you suck"...... no sales tax, and my FFL charges $25 for the transfer.

Your ammo buying adventure sounds like it was well worth the time... I'd love to get a look at Randall's shop myself, and you really scored on the ammo haul.

No doubt you will do everyone concerned; Winchester, yourself and we of the MLC, proud. Looking forward to pics!

And, again, "You suck!" because of the low transfer fees as well as the freedoms you enjoy living as an AMERICAN in a Free State.

I hear you. Not to put too fine a point on it but there're two Rand...s here in the MLC. Both are lever action aficionados, and one is a professional gunsmith/machinist (Randall Rausch).

The other is a machinist/gunsmith Jeep builder extraodinaire (W.R. "Randy" Buchanan).

You're closer to Matt's Off Road Recovery in Hurricane, or, better yet, Paul of FabRats somewhere not too far from St. George.

When I say Randy's a Jeep builder extraordinaire, I am referring to his personal, hobby vehicle. I don't think he's in the -building business, though.

What chassis is the Jeep Cherokee from the late '80s/early '90s? That's the stuff Matt likes. Too, he's built a very capable crawler using the shell of a Corvair station wagon.

                                .
