    I've got a 1100 12ga (1985) that's got a little engraving on the reciever but it's nothing like yours..They sure made a fine shotgun. That's a beauty...

Here, let me add some conflict to the 'ol "JM Marlins are superior to Remlins!" discussion.

Check out my 1970 JM stamped 444 problem.

That's crazy stuff. Are you able to cycle the lever and eject an empty ?

Is this a new to you gun?

... It seems to cycle fine. No more difficult than my 45-70 or any of my other many Marlins...though I haven't done them side by side yet.
it cycles ok with nothing in the chamber?

        Best of luck

Cycles fine with nothing in the chamber, and seems to eject the shorter Hornady brass fine, though one of the gouges is still present on the Hornady brass. Just not the giant one near the mouth.

Ordered the pre-75 22 1/2" barrel. Not ideal, but... :/

Geting the barrel while it's available, was the smart/right move, in my opinion.

I agree. My go to hunting rifle is an 1894 Cowboy in 45 Colt with an 18" barrel. Perfect size for brush country and vehicles. I don't need them all to be short!

Spyder, you mentioned a few posts back the 22" Marlin. Those 22" Marlin 1895s are one of the most pleasant-looking long guns of all time.

I've got an 1895 in 45-70 just like that. An older JM stamped one.

My brother had one of the first model .444s, with the 24 inch barrel, half or 3/4 magazine and the straight grip Monte Carlo stock. It was very accurate and actually I liked the looks. There is one listed on Little John's auction this weekend. I just got a new truck so I have to be good.

How far past the magazine tube can it be shortened and still be 16”?
