Makes sense. I appreciate the response.

It depends. PPTs are exempt from the certified list, so no SSE is required, but if the firearm is shipped, then that would not be a PPT, so it would have to be SSE in order to be transferred.

Tried reading through this, but hoping to save a little time..

If I buy an 80% AR/AK lower, can I build that in to a pistol?

          Yes, but:
Single shot only, first, to get around CA Safe Handgun Roster
Then you can convert it later to SA if you feel led.
No legal requirement to document it in SSE configuration
          BUT it's a good idea.

            timeline on the SSE...
starting a SSE tomorrow 2pm. if I do my math correctly 30 day November 1st
and Start another NEW SSE Nov 1st 2:15 (30 day and couple minutes) last NEW SSE Purchase Dec 1st 2:30pm and pick up Dec 11th.

one new gun every 30 days, SSE/DROS 10 days holds , PPT every 10 days?

Did not realize the SSE end Jan 1 and there is a couple guns I've wanted to counting my days

So it appears some of you guys are trying to buy as many SSE guns as possible so basically it's like structuring handgun purchases before the politicos make it hard for you to get what you want?

As a new person, here I am still trying to wrap my head around this thread and the implications for someone who wants to purchase a handgun.

If you order pistol through them. DROS+ Labor for SSE conversion $25+ Costs of SSE kit $60 which is refundable on return of SSE kit. They also give a lifetime warranty with all guns you order from them. Great for some MFGs who refuse to warranty SSE guns

Transfers from other gun dealers are an extra $40

They use a universal kit and can do almost any gun 380acp or larger.

Politicos have already had the bill passed, signed and has become a law. Done deal. Trying to get what we can before law goes into effect on 1/1/15.

Plus you can only buy 1 new handgun every 30 days in CA so time is ticking. tick, tick, tick....Once the ball drops, party is over.

                    Only applies to handguns.

Do you have specific questions, or would you just like an Inigo Montoya sum-up?

Your math looks right. DROS starts 10/2. Next one 11/1. Last one 12/1. The exact time will depend on when your DROSes are filed.

PPT can be done any time, but you have to wait for the 10 days to pick up, except in City of Los Angeles, which adheres to 1-in-30 even in the case of PPTs. Just stay away from the City of Los Angeles for all transactions.

Still doing my homework at the moment. Looking at the 1911 or Heckler&Koch. I'm open to suggestions. Currently summing up my research so I'll make a thread for those last minute newbies such as myself what to get before the end of the year.

If I can squeeze in two handguns before year end then great. Realistically. I'll probably get one gun. Will need to focus on getting a safe and all the other items.

So I am currently waiting on my ak pistol, but I could buy any handgun simultaneously, as long as its ppt..? Just not in LA.

                              Cool.

Yes...if/when the Roster itself is ruled Unconstitutional and an infringement on our 2nd Amendment Rights. It's working it's way through the court system...but don't hold your breath for how long it will take. After the 10-day wait for CCW license holders and others that have already gone through the background check was shot down, I figure the roster is the next unreasonable restriction to fall.
