there is a finite amount of time in the barrel after it fires. it is not immediate.
obviously it depends on the charge and length of the barrel.
you might think that .0005 seconds is so fast, the gun moving doesn't matter, but if the gun is moving laterally at 25 mph, it would move ~1/4" between the time the round goes off and the bullet exits the barrel.Comment

I'm lucky enough to shoot and train with a Master shooter. I make the mistake of saying I need to slow down for this array or that. He always tells me the same. Haha.In my last match I had fun time talking to one of the Masters on my squad about how to shoot an array with some small/hard steel and I said "I'll just have to go slower here," to which he said "no, you just need to be accurate." Frustrating observation, but he was completely right...
I have learned to be more precise with my words. I don't need to shoot slower, I need to see a better sight picture before breaking the shot. Thing is that when I say slow, this what I actually mean. But I get what he's trying to do and that's remove the concept of slowing down from my subconscious.

Botkin, hahah. That's a guy that seems like all he does is practice. He has some good points about building speed, like concentrating on having "a sense of urgency", and getting a timer.

By far the most important gadget (don't use app, get a real timer).
It's like bathroom scales - you might not like the numbers it displays today, but it will tell you precisely where you're at and will objectively track your progress as you continue your training.sigpicNRA Benefactor MemberComment

RE: Shooting fast like the actors trained by Taran. -- It's not the gear. Bob Vogel has won Nationals with a stock Glock. The right classes are helpful but you can get to a very high level (possibly GM, certainly A Class) just by training yourself with the right youtube videos (Start with Rob Vogel's if you don't know who else to watch, you'll figure out who to watch on your own after that). Then dry-fire, dry-fire, dry-fire....Steve Anderson's dry fire book and youtube videos can show you the way. There is no magic, and everything you need is free on the Internet if you look for it.
RE: Combat Shooting - A CCW class is good to understand the law and ramifications of a shooting, and some are better than others, but the four I've been in were not the most expeditious way to develop that skillset and the mindset and stress inoculation needed to stand and deliver under pressure. They can get you started, and you should do one even if you can't get a CCW, but they really are very basic. I'd start with--or follow with--a good 2-day course from a reputable instructor like Reitz/ITTS, etc.
The stress inoculation occurs through (properly run) force-on-force training and visualization with sufficient frequency.
Watch out for hype, there is much BS and wonky egos in the training world. But an instructor does not need to have been in combat to deliver a useful class, and many who have not seen the elephant have better technical and/or teaching skills than some who have, but at some point--if you are serious about becoming as prepared as you can be--you'll want to do some training with people who have prevailed in multiple shootings/combat.
Everyone has the capacity to get that good with stock equipment, putting in the work is where the magic happens. Sure, Taran has sweet customized guns, but if you see him run a stock pistol it won't look much different, and the differences will be in fractions of a second.
Training is the way.Last edited by Stumpfenhammer; 06-06-2019, 3:04 PM.FOR SALE - Orange CountyComment
