how does one shoot so fast??

so been watching some videos that multiple actors/actresses did for training for the movie john wick 3, also other videos of people in competitions. how do they shoot like they are shooting 22lr pistols?? it seems like there is barely any recoil at all when they shoot? is it the gun or the people or both??

It's mainly a matter of having a firm grip, good trigger control, and an appropriately sized target for fast shooting. Keep in mind that when you see people shooting 6 rounds per second, it's usually at a large silhouette target no more than 7yds away. You won't see too many people hitting 3" bullseyes at 25yd at that kind of speed.

The of muzzle rise is determined by the shooter's grip, the round and/or the the gun. All other things being equal, it is the shooter's grip the most influences muzzle rise.

In free states, the addition of a compensator can reduce both muzzle rise and perceived recoil. I haven't seen John Wick 3 yet, but IIRC he has used compensated guns in the past.

Bore height also contributes to muzzle rise. Typically the lower the barrel sits vis-a-vis the top of the shooter's grip, the less muzzle rise. Finally, there is of course, the caliber / ammo factor. Shooting a blank on a movie set is not going to generate as much recoil as a 700 gn 500 S&W load.

Well, I’m sure in the movies they don’t shoot any real projectile. And probably use minimal powder to cycle the gun.

well the videos i been watching are actually the videos they shot for training. it is quite amazing to see those hollywood stars shooting like pros with those STI/taran tactical pistols... i mean i dont know how much training hours they put in, but personally, i can only shoot that fast with my 22lr pistols lol!!!

Shooting is visual. Once you are able to call your shots, you can shoot much faster.

you don't just start shooting fast (and still hit the target) right off the gate.

If you watch Halle Berry shooting the Glock 17, her double tap groups are at least 10" wide. Hitting a man-sized target within 10-15 feet isn't difficult even for novice shooters.

It's both, but it is also who he's training with. Taran Butler was a top competitive shooter, and has built the pistols for speed and accuracy. Taran knows his stuff. There is a reason why people pay a lot of money to train with top competitive shooters, because they can watch how you shoot and help you shoot faster by correcting the small things and teach you techniques to shoot faster accurately. What it comes down to it practicing the correct techniques under a watchful eye and taking that feedback and pushing yourself to improve just like and sport.

How do you get good at anything? You study and apply what you learned. A lot and often.

From what I've read, Keanu Reeves caught the bug of competition shooting during the Matrix series. He shoots quite often... I don't believe he is faking it. I remember seeing footage of the young girl from Kick-*** doing drills. That was cool to see. Unfortunately, most actors/ actresses provide no doubt about their anti-gun beliefs... especially those in action movies. I don't know & haven't read about anything Keanu has said on the issue... he seems to keep his thoughts & beliefs fairly private.

Yep and unfortunately it's hard to find places to practice and train when getting started unless you have access to a private range in CA or go out to BLM.
