Ok, this is what I need more clarification on.

You mean single shot as in, by virtue of having a fixed sled installed to preclude a second shot from being fired in what would normally be a DI gun?

Or do you mean single shot as in a bolt (pump/lever/straight pull) action? I only ask because today, upon reviewing a few pages back, I saw this:

There's nothing that prohibits making a bolt-action single-shot pistol into a bolt-action detachable magazine fed pistol.
^Operating system did not change, only the ammunition feeding system and there's nothing prohibiting the change of the ammunition feeding system on bolt-action firearms.

So, legally a bolt-action pistol can go from a fixed 0 round magazine/sled that can not be removed without disassembling the firearm's action to a detachable magazine that is released by a standard magazine release.

    Yes.
That means, that if my AR pistol is a bolt action ONLY (with no provisions, or intent, for converting to semi auto at a later time), then I can use a 10-round magazine after it is VolRegged?

I mean, when I read the text of ARTICLE 6. Exceptions to Rules Governing Unsafe Handguns [32100 - 32110], it says that bolt actions are exempt from the unsafe handgun rules. Would a pure bolt action pistol even need a 0-round sled while its being built if bolt actions are exempt in the first place? Or is that a conservative act meant to prevent people from discarding the 0-rd sled and slapping a normal magazine into an upper with a gas tube?

      Yes.
It would be CA legal to use any type of legally owned detachable magazine in a manually operated pistol.

The 0 round mag/sled is reqired during manufacture because the exemption requires the bolt-action pistol to be single-shot (cartridge is manually loaded into the barrel's chamber + no magazine capacity).

Classic examples of a "pure" bolt-action pistol...

      A. The Remington XP-100. This bolt-action pistol does not have a magazine capacity. Which makes it meet the bolt-action single-shot requirement.

      B. FIE Model 722. This bolt-action pistol uses detachable 6 round magazines. Which makes it not meet the bolt-action single-shot requirement.
(In order to meet the single-shot requirement, it would need a 0 round mag/sled that can not be removed without disassembling the firearm's action or that is permanently attached in the firearm's magazine well.)

My goodness... so much CA bs hassles on this topic.
What's the consensus on my AR pistol? I'm reading its legal, then I'm also reading its not.
Do I still need to register?

Completed with custom serial number late 2013.
Semi auto configuration. 12 in. barrel.
Magazine is fixed in place due to mag catch modification. No BB.
Recently added a SB tactical SBPDW brace.

Due to CA DOJ regulations for self-made/assembled firearms being adopted on 05-21-2018...

It needs to be voluntarily registered (using the self-engraved markings) as a non-assault weapon before 07-01-2018.

If it is not voluntarily registered before 07-01-2018, then it needs CA DOJ marking info engraved on it (in addition to the existing engravings) before 01-01-2019.
^This process will register the firearm as a non-assault weapon with CA DOJ.

Starting 01-01-2019, if it is not registered with CA DOJ, then it can be confiscated as evidence of violating CA self-made/assembled firearm laws.

            Thanks for the reply.

In Firearm Ownership Report, I'm stuck at the process where it ask for MAKE*. Do I select Tactical Machining which was the 80% I built from?

And if it has a Radlock? Is a Radlock considered a BB when it's screwed in and locked?

Yes, it is considered a "bullet button" style magazine lock.
^Because a tool can still be used to unlock it.

If it was screwed in and then permanently attached (filled with epoxy or welded in or riveted in place), then it might meet CA's definition of "permanently attached to" and it could meet CA's definition of a "fixed magazine".

If you properly (permanently) install the Raddlock Relock to your existing Raddlock, then it would meet CA's definition of a "fixed magazine".

Starting 01-01-2017, a semi-auto pistol that does not have a "fixed magazine" and the magazine is located outside of the pistol's grip is an assault weapon. [PC 30515(a)(4)(D)]

In order to be considered a "fixed magazine" the ammunition feeding device needs to be contained in the firearm and it can not be removed without disassembling the firearm's action or it needs to be permanently attached to the firearm's magazine well.

Hi guys; from your postings it seems clear to me that if my.(formerly 80%) ar pistol was semi what I should do, but mine has that special bolt catch that catches every time forcing me to re-charge it every single shot, which I prefer. So that makes it non-semi auto. So to follow regs, I need to lock in my 50beo 10rd mag (fc hook), non pistol grip, pinned brake on 10.5 barrel and have the serial I dremel'd on in 2010 re engraved deeper....then it's legal again? Or do I need to register it also...?

Since I need to re-engrave it deeper, do I have to go to a Smith for that or are there engravers who do firearms?

Sorry for the bother, but thank you for any input. I just found out about all this. :/

From my understanding, there's no way around it. You must register it before 1-1-19 if you plan on shooting it while in California.

Saw a post on FB. Someone got hit with a lot of felonies for trying to comply with current registration laws. Just remember...make sure your firearms are configured correctly before you send photos over to DOJ.
