this might not be the best place for my question but I see a lot of experienced guys in here with 80% build experience. I'm looking to mill my first lower and apply for a serial after July and want to know if a polymer 80% would be reliable enough for a 458 build. I'd if i can do it with some drill bits and a hand drill that'd be great as I'd rather put some of my funds into the needed jig rather than an expensive reuter.

No polymers after 7/1/18 unless they contain 3.7oz of type 17-4 stainless steel.

Apparently too late for Vol-Reg... It had to be accepted and input into the database prior to Sunday.

May as well save your $19 and wait until Monday, then apply for an FMBUS.
Sucks for those who will be stuck with two serial numbers.
Polymer are SOL.
Also puts to bed the debate that *only* the serial number is needed.

I'd say no 80s after 7/1/18 period. It's really pointless anymore, as a stripped lower will run less expensive anyway.

If that Polymer 80 is not manufactured with 3.7oz of stainless as a part of the casting, don't bother, it's not legal.

oh wow thanks that was not mentioned in any of the pistol threads. Would the next material be 6061 that wouldn't give me too much trouble with a hand drill?

Buy a router jig, and a cheap router. It'll come out much nicer. A cheap full size router will probably do a better job than a cheap trim router.

There's bound to be a bunch of jigs and other 80% related stuff for sale soon, as a lot of people will not want to deal with the hassle.

He got busy and felt bad, offered to meet to return it, I told him to keep it as long as he needed it.

I wouldn't even try to do a Poly lower with a hand drill.
At the very least, a drill press.

The way the webinar stated was you need to submit any 80% completed lower (regardless of material) through CFARS before midnight Sunday. Submit before 7-1-18 and you would be good.

They literally said on the call you should stop what you are doing and login into CFARS and VolReg/Self report the firearm asap any finished 80% firearms.

AFTER 7/1/18, the 3.7oz requirement goes into affect. According to the webinar.

You are right. Risky Business needs to have this completed and submitted by Saturday.

No, according to CRPA it only needs to be completed into a 100% lower and it’s likely everyone who hasn’t already had their volreg added before 2018 will be rejected. Everyone needs to request serial numbers after July 1st, and for anything built July 1st and back to 1968 we have till 2019 to receive the serial and have our photos, fingerprints and registration accepted. Good thing I never engraved anything but I’m out my $19.

If you don’t mind throwing away $19 there’s still a possibility someone might accept it, but I doubt it. :/
