As expected I received a denial on my appeal. It's too bad cause I submitted a couple of character letters one from a cop and it was a good one. So As a heads up to you guys it seems as if they do not consider background when initially approving your application, only good cause. Not until you get fingerprinted do they consider it. Even if you disclose it, its expunged, and 20 years ago he will probably deny you. Not because of lack of good cause or good moral character, because of past criminal record.

A little yes, if he would have denied me at first no. Why approve my app knowning that I disclosed my past, only to deny me later because of it. Besides I thought I only had to show GC and GMC, I figured my past would get me denyed on GMC grounds.

Picked it up today

So...I finally have my CCW in my grubbly little hands. I had an appointment with Officer Grant this morning to pickup my license. YIPPEE!!! If I wasn't at work, I'd head out to WalMart right now

Here's my final timeline:

24 Aug - Dropped of application
10 Sep - Called for LiveScan
17 Sep - Livescan completed
11 Feb - Approved for training (yep...almost 6 months)
24 Feb - Training completed (thanks Dave)
25 Feb - Turned in targets
01 Mar - Approved for pickup
07 Mar - Picked-up CCW

I'm active at Travis and SC is my home of record (i.e. I pay SC state taxes, etc.) BUT I own a house here and have a CA license (long story, but it involves returning from overseas and a motorcycle endorsement). I had no problem getting a CA CCW. If, however, you have an out-of-state license, it may be more dificult. You may want to give Kellie Sayre a call at the Sheriff's office. She's the new CCW coordinator and can probably give you an answer. You can't be the first person to have that issue. Kellie's number is 707-784-7034.

I was told when I got my CCW that I should make a note to renew at least 4wks and preferably 6-8wks before my current one expired. This was by Officer Grant just this past year when I got mine. Renewals are simple but they don't get moved to the top of the pile. I would hate to wait until 10 days before expiration to find out that it was going expire before they get to it. Then again, they may be moving faster now but who knows where it is going to be in 2yrs....

I know I'm kind of beating the cow here but can any recent non-LEO approvals please send me an edited down GC that you used for Solano? I'm extremely curious what is getting approved. A simple statement like I used in Sac Co may not cut it in Solano.

I have reviewed a handful of Solano GC's that have gotten approved and I am going to go out on a limb and say that self-defense appears to be enough. But in all GC's I have seen, the self-defense was elaborated to about 2-4 paragraphs. These were all residents of Vallejo in case that makes a difference.

denied due to the fact I failed to disclose a arrest while a Juvenile even though there was no charge..Lesson learned ill be ready next time...Good luck folks and be safe!

You were right!!! I forgot about it and today i got my proceed to livescan letter!

edit: should i wait to do training after they do my background stuff? or can i do the training sooner? i have been livescanned multiple times BC of occupational licence requirements and have a squeaky clean record.
