The only thing I'm confused about is what I read about a phycological evaluation, and that it "may" be required. Are they asking for this currently?

I may not get my permit before I expire but I do want to make sure I check all the boxes. Requalification is on August 18 and my permit expires 10/01
I have never heard of them doing a psch eval for renewals.
Unless the system is back up (haven't heard it is) you more than likely will get an extension for your current CCW.

Curious, has anyone tried using their extension card when trying to bypass the fsc requirement?

        AFAIK...

The only times SBSD has required a psych exam for an applicant:
        A. Is when the applicant indicates recent or past mental health issues on their initial application.
        B. Is when a third party red flags or reports possible mental health issues about the applicant during the renewal process.

Has anyone gotten an actual renewal card post-hack? They told me I could not carry any of the guns that I re-qualified with until I get the new card.

You can still carry any firearms that were on your CCW prior to renewal.
You can not carry any firearms you were adding to your CCW.

In light of the county not issuing due to the hack, are there any cities in San Bernardino County that are stepping up to issue?

It's already taken awhile for SBCo to get back up and running, with no end date in sight.

Doubtful. If your City issues than apply there.

                  BigMac90660 and LadyRuger...

I don't post often, but I do read and keep up with almost everything. My personal experience with local jurisdiction CCW issuance is really mixed. I had my original permit thru my local Chief years ago. A few renewals were simple and straightforward. The next Chief required many hurdles and clearly did not want to reissue... but finally did. Then another Chief came on several years later with impossible requirements (WELL beyond the State) so that it was de-facto non-issue. Nearly everyone simply applied to the County level and will never go back to the City level.

My main point is that the SBSD has been consistently supportive of CCW. Even with the recent timetable issues and renewal problems... it DOES NOT appear that SBSD has made policy changes to undermine CCW issuance. I will never go back to apply at the City level... no matter who the Chief is.

                  Just my opinion.

I have ZERO desire to apply with any PD.
He asked about City issuance. I answered him.

The city now refers CCW inquiries to SBCSD.

Vplaza96, that has been the case in the county for awhile, hence why I asked if any cities were stepping up with the county having problems.

In the past you had to apply to the city, then be denied before you could apply to the county. Then they gave all power to the county, and said go direct, we don't need to tell you we won't do it first. A lot of the cities that have deferred to the county are still conservative, and did it due to budget issues. Was just curious if any of them are stepping up now.

More choices are better than fewer. If you could apply to the city now, then reapply with the county when they get their computer issues sorted out later, that would be better than sitting around waiting with no options.

Just commented on the redlands post since I live here and it looks like their website says to go to the county.

                              Regarding Redlands PD CCW issuance...

Redlands recently appointed a new police chief and one of the things she first implemented when coming into power was to defer CCW issuance to the San Bernardino County Sheriff Department (SBSD).

The previous Redland Police Chief required residents of Redlands to first apply to the Redlands PD before appealing to SBSD and the SBSD CCW website had a notice posted for residents of Redlands to first apply to the Redlands PD.
^Under this police chief, a CCW permit applicant had to have three written letters of reference that approved (did not oppose) the applicant for having a concealed carry permit because the applicant is a law abiding person of good moral character.

                                My current renewal journey...

                                My permit expires on 10-15-2023.
08-04-23 = watched the three CCW renewal videos using the links from the SBSD CCW website and completed the CCW Policy Renewal Attestation 2023 form.
08-08-23 = completed the CCW renewal training at the Route 66 Shooting Sports Park.
08-09-23 = turned in my CCW renewal packet at the SBSD CCW unit and advised them of two changes (job title change and drop/add new handgun). they took my picture and gave me the 120 day extension card. they advised that I can not carry my new handgun, until I receive my new CCW permit. they also advised that I will receive a phone call informing me when I can come and pick up my new CCW permit.
