In my case I ALWAYS use my middle initial. All my CC's have my middle initial. All my employment records are with my middle initial. My medical records at Kaiser have my middle initial.

Which is why I told the deputy to make sure he searched for my name with my middle initial.

And if you're wondering why I use my middle initial in everything it's because I have the same middle name as my grandfather. I'm very proud of that and show that by using it all the time.

I just looked at the initial application and it asks for last, first, middle. I use my middle name for most everything. Middle initial when asked how I want my name to appear. My middle initial is R. For legal identity purposes I would want to clarify my middle name.

      Interview today

I arrived 50 minutes early with no anticipation of getting in before the scheduled time because I'm coming from Apple Valley and there is never a guarantee of traffic being good. I signed in and waited no longer than 5 minutes before they called me in.

Everything went very smooth and they were very nice and professional with even some comedy involved. Something about customer service is what we're all about and please leave a positive review on Yelp. Very pleasant experience.

One thing I will advise and was mentioned earlier, fill out and bring EVERYTHING, and copies. What it states on the "Initial Instructions" page to bring is not adequate. Why it does not state that I'm not sure but I felt like it was expected that I have it all in hand.

Now the wait begins. He said likely 2 months.

            Employment Verification
            Domestic Violence Disclosure
            Terms of Use
            Pre-Background Interview
            Verification of Concealed Weapons

Maybe this is stuff you do there but I had them all, already filled out and he took them all. Either way, best to be as prepared as possible to avoid delays.

Again, seems to be a disconnect between the information page which states to fill out all the forms prior to the appointment and the initial instructions page which says to bring only specific items, ie, money orders, notarized form, etc.

I do got a misdemeanor back in 2010 for speed racing. Is that going to maybe denied for ccw? I got a lower charge but still remains a misdemeanor.

                The CCW site clearly says:
New Application Process (Complete all forms prior to appointment)
California Department of Justice CCW Application
                Initial Instructions
                Notarization Form
                Employment/Residence History Form
                Employment Verification

It's hard to say. Engaging in a Speed Contest could show lack of moral character. I too was charged with that but it was reduced to Unsafe Start; an infraction.

I'm not sure if they could see what I was charged with or if they only saw the infraction. Though I got mine over 30 years ago.

I have my permit. The best I can say is that you won't know if you don't try.

                    Good luck.

                    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

What you did 9 years ago, is less important that what you've done during the last 9. If you continued to get cited, that's a trend, and isn't good. Focus on the positive things you've done since and acknowledge that long past incident was a learning moment.

The important thing is to disclose it - any any other peccadilloes. My interviewer was more interested in full disclosure than what happened years ago.

However, if you don't disclose, I have been told that is grounds for rejection

A lot of us had a history. I did a few months in country in 1992 to clean up some DUI and possession charges from the late 1980's... I just told the truth. Some of us did stupid stuff, then we grew up.

Basically if you don't do dope, don't have any pending charges or infractions, and no non-disqualifying crimes in the last 5 years you should be fine so long as your paperwork is intact and you actually live in the county.

If you've ever been convicted of a disqualifying crime, fuggettaboutit.
