I said for CLASS. There is no CLASS time at the range for gun additions and the ONLY time you can modify your weapons is at renewal time.

      My original three pistols were
      9mm Shield
      .380 Walther PPK/S
      .357 Ruger SP101

I sold the Walther and never carried the SP101

I have found the Shield to be one of the best ccw guns available in my opinion
I carry appendix in an iwb bladetech holster
I have never shot the Shield as well as I like though, I can qualify without issue but tend to pull a little high and to the left because the way the trigger breaks on the striker fired shield.
I am keeping the Shield and adding two kahr pistols in 9mm
the cw9 is about the same size as the Shield but thinner and more comfortable in the hand for me
Also adding a kahr pm9 which is smaller and not much larger than a .380.
What I have found with the kahr pistols is that the striker is only partially cocked
and pulling the trigger is like a double Acton revolver, longer and very much smoother and for me they are point of aim accurate, I also like the grip angle better.
I considered a Springfield XD9 subcompact but for a subcompact it's still a little beast and I tend to shank high and to the left as well with the way the trigger breaks on that pistol also.
So there you have it, my two cents on pistol choices.
A good leather belt that supports the weight of you pistol is important and buying your pants one inch bigger in the waist is helpful as well
Shoot at least once a month and practice your draw(with an empty gun, please)
      Muscle memory is important

Ya, evening class, the sun is going to be at your back, so that is helpful, but I don't think a Saturday morning would be an issue because of the 400ft high backstop.

I went in the evening in November, and it was a wake-up call that I need more low-light sighting practice. Not the kind of low lighting from an indoor range, but shooting in the dark with bright floodlights behind me (which completely wash out night sights).
I had a devil of a time focusing on my front sight and could not balance my focus on the target.
I qualified, but I know I was pulling high left.

          I renewed last year...

During renewal I dropped the SIG and added two more Glocks.

          Currently listed on my permit:
          Glock 30
          Glock 19
          Glock 43

I disliked the DAO trigger on the SIG and decided to stay with the same trigger system on my carry handguns in order to be consistent.

              Glock 43 = everyday
              Glock 30 = occasionally
              Glock 19 = rarely

There isn't a time frame to go by. Every app is different.
Did your employer get the paperwork back to SBCSD in a timely manner?

That seems to be the biggest hang up in the application process.

                    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

I haven't really talked to my employer. I figured they'd drag their feet. I know my manager is liberal leaning. I was gonna call the sheriff for an update today.

As already posted the employment verifaction is usually the hang up.
Call the CCW office, 'the sheriff' probably won't take your call , and check with one of the girls.
