More work, but Redlands is not exactly Ontario.
It may very well be that Redlands could not justify the resources given the likely low number of applicants.
This also puts Redlands residents back into the County training program, so they will have the same training as everyone else.

More consistent good cause and $100 for training, I think this is probably a good thing for the residents.

Here are my tips for range day:

There are signs that guide you to the proper parking lot and also to the classroom.

Get there early and walk your *** to the classroom. Don't hang out in your car until 7:57am. I walked into the classroom at 7:45am and it was already packed.

Respect the instructors. If you disagree with their "advice", great. Keep it to yourself. Apparently some of the 70+ year old men in my class would rather end up dead than in front of a jury.

Bring a pen or two. There are things to sign in the classroom.

Bring a hat or visor for outside, and wear sunscreen if you're pasty.

Bring a set of "outdoor" safety glasses with some tint or anti-glare. I brought my indoor set and it sucked.

Your guns will be inspected thoroughly at the range. Grips, lasers, flashlights, and trigger "improvements" are OK. Things that will get rejected are hair triggers and garage mods not designed for the gun.

Bring at least two magazines for your pistols. Part of the shooting test is to shoot 5 rounds, drop the mag, insert a new one/chamber a round, and fire 5 more times. If you only bring one mag, you will be fumbling around with ammo at the firing line while everyone else is waiting for you to finish. If you use a revolver, bring a few speed loaders.

In my opinion, the deputies are mainly looking for safe handling and grip of your weapons. Given the short distance, you could probably shoot the target one-handed with your weak side and still pass.

Right before they let us go home , one gentleman felt the need to complain again about how much this all costs and where all the money goes. The deputy explained (with great class) that some of the people helping out at the range are volunteers, so be sure to thank them.
Especially the one who failed to get in line and qualify! I really thought he was joking about not shooting. He was a winner from the beginning...

Redlands hired a new Chief of Police, who just reverted CCW issuance back to SBSD.
The previous Chief of Police was the one who wanted CCW issuance for Redlands city residents to be done by Redlands PD and not by SBSD.

new = Redlands Police Chief Christopher Catren
old = Redlands Police Chief Mark Garcia

I am shocked that they let him qualify after all that. I don't know if you heard but one of the deputies was shaking his head at the whole thing and said under his breath "its not even his day to be here...". Can you imagine the lack of situational awareness from him?

When they say that SDSB wants you to pass, they sure mean it.

Something similar did happen a year or two ago during renewal class.

Of course, HQ is a gun free zone unless you have a badge.
Somehow, the topic of "someone" carrying in class came up.
After lunch, there was an empty seat, and the instructor mentioned that he still had one permit on his desk after handing out the stack of new ones.

Just curious... what is the seating like in the classroom portion?

Plastic folding chairs at 6/8" tables. Everyone is facing the same direction; the front of the class.

There will be plenty of seating for the class. The same can't be said about the range.

                            Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

I don't think these knuckleheads will kill the program. It's just unproductive banter and complaining, but it's still annoying and wastes time. Everyone there wants to shoot and go home. If it were me, I'd say "Sir, you seem easily agitated and I'm not sure I trust you with a CCW. Please leave." LOL
