I don't have my original birth certificate and marriage license. Will certified private copies work in their place instead of the public copies? The private copies have more detailed information than the public copy. Or am I out of luck on this?

Check with the county you were born in. You should be able to get a certified copy.
LA County if you were born after 1964 they can print it on the spot.
Prior to that, they have not yet digitized them and need to look it up and mail it (6 weeks).

The marriage certificate is only needed to verify a name change produced by the marriage.
It can also be used to verify community property if you wish to put your spouse's handgun on your permit. After range qualification and permit processing, the gun will literally be registered to both of you.

If you were born outside of the country or for some other reason there is no way to obtain an original certified copy of your BC, give them a call and see what they suggest.
The staff is very helpful and more than happy to answer any questions.

I had my interview with a very stern detective lady. She got mad at me for not filling out a part of the app. I was nervous and intimidated by her but finished every reply with a "Yes Ma'am". She did ask 3 times if I was in the military wich kinda confused me. Like I said my interview was on the 25th so we'll see how everything pans out.
I have friends from church that I know can give me a letter of recommendation if I get denied. I'm pretty bummed I don't think I did well.

Yes. Sign in front of them when they tell you. If I remeber correctly section 7 you should have submitted section 7 online as well

Make sure you have ALL OF YOU PAPER WORK this means original birth certificate from the county you were born in, the original marriage certificate, the deed or lease to appartment or home, a utility bill, license make sure you fill out all the application this mean your wife's info to ware she works her work phone number address. Your good cause filled out all that stuff on there this needs o be done no exceptions on what to bring or what to fill out go over it 2,3,4 how ever many times make sure you have it ALL

Where can I find the number to call DOJ or FBI to check on my background I had my interview 2/25 I got a call from my work they said they got a letter from SBSD I hope they filled it out and sent it already. Your processes went pretty quick?
Filled out my app on 11/12/16 they gave me an interview date 2/25.
Also does anyone know if the Devore vs Apple Valley range is better I heard Apple Valley is best?

Either one is fine. It's the same thing and you will not get a choice on which one to go to. They will assign you a range date and tell you which range you will be at when they call to give you your range date.

I was offered a choice.
First available was Jan 2 at AVGC, 2nd available was Jan 16 at Devore.

BUT... I was called and notified that I had cleared on Dec 1st, the day before the attack.

None of that was on my application or any of the supplemental paperwork, nor was it asked for.
Only question about her was how long we had been together.
In section 7, the set of questions under Spouse/Domestic Partner is for YOUR employer, unless the form has changed.

Just be patient.
Interview 2-25 and employer already got the letter you're doing just fine.
My interview was August 13th and my neighborhood check wasn't until the end of October.

If you have nothing shady in your background, you'll pass the DOJ portion without a problem.
Historically, seems most denials are due to residency issues (applicant has a cabin in Big Bear but resides in LA), but late last year, there were several Calgunners who were denied. Best we could figure is it was something uncovered likely during the neighborhood check.
Some have reported that the investigating officers seem to be very interested in any racist comments, but beyond that, fights with neighbors, loud parties, neighbor claims to smell pot... they can all be a factor.
