The point is the person being interviewed doesn't "characterize" their experience but merely answers questions that lead the examiner to a conclusion.

No information is "volunteered" and only honest answers are offered.

There is no opportunity to qualify or explain.

I get the feeling you have seldom or never been interviewed by law enforcement.

You are comparing apples and oranges here and making assumptions based on limited and/or the absence of information.

As 71musty said, applying for a LEO position is very different from applying for a CCW.

I have applied for and successfully received LTC's in five different states, including California.

Yes, I also have experience with LEO interviews...

It is easy to do, when you doing something you have never done before.

My standard advice is, relax and let the investigator lead the conversation (this will also give you insight into what, if any issues they might have).

You'll come off better in the interview and you'll be less tempted to say too much.

I think in most issuing jurisdictions, they have made up their minds (whether to approve you for the next step) in most cases before you arrive.

They are usually just crossing the T's and dotting the I's.

Unless they see disqualifying behavior or statements, it is yours to lose.

Relax and report back when you are done...

I had my interview with a very stern detective lady. She got mad at me for not filling out a part of the app. I was nervous and intimidated by her but finished every reply with a "Yes Ma'am". She did ask 3 times if I was in the military wich kinda confused me. Like I said my interview was on the 25th so we'll see how everything pans out.
I have friends from church that I know can give me a letter of recommendation if I get denied. I'm pretty bummed I don't think I did well.

Yes sir after the interview she took my money orders and gave me some papers to take over to livescan.

These detectives are folks trained/used to dealing with criminals, not dealing with folks that are simply trying to exercise a bit of their constitutional rights. They can at times be a little rough around the edges, that's all. It's what I jokingly call a proctologist's view of the world.

They're still quite reasonable and fair and are just trying their best to do a good job under the guidelines they're given.

Yes, you can change weapons any time before your class/range day. After class/range day probably not.

Yep.

I changed my mind no less than 6 times in the months between application and range day.
One of the guns I added to my permit ultimately was picked up from DROS the day before I was called and informed that I had cleared background and scheduled range.
Shot the crap out of it for 3 weeks and qualified with it.

You are. Someone very close to me has a very similar history to yours, is 20 years younger, and has had his SB CCW for about 3 years now.
