I thought "self-defense" was all you needed now for GC?

      Specificity

      Greetings Calgunners.

My name is Jonathan, and I'm a native Californian who escaped California to become a Texas attorney. Not wanting to leave my entire extended family at the mercy of the Sacramento insanity, I returned to California in 2011 to work with the family business.

As a resident of the San Bernardino mountains, I'm under the jurisdiction of SBCSD. Although I've considered applying for a permit under both Sheriffs Hoops and McMahon, the length of the process combined with the subjectivity of the required GCS has been too off-putting, up until now.

Though I know that Sheriff McMahon is more pro-2A than most, I'm hoping that Peruta is a motivator for him to dump the self-defense+ requirement and move to requiring nothing more than "self defense" or "personal protection."

Does anyone know if he is still requiring applicants to write a paragraph or two on why you have need for self defense or personal protection?

      Thanks in advance!

You still have to write more than self defense but I really dont understand the big boohoo everyone has over it.

Do you really want every person that can fill out a blank form to have a ccw? I personally don't. Mine took 1 year to get and I'm okay with the in depth process. I wish they actually forced some extra training before issuing.

Once Peruta is final you don't or shouldn't need more than Self Defense!

So after reading the prior 20 pages on this thread I have a few questions:

            1) Everyone keeps saying they picked up their "packet" from the Sheriff HQ. Is this necessary as the forms available online in a writable PDF format?

            2) Are all the range courses now at the Devore Sheriff Training Center or is the Apple Valley Gun Club still used?

            3) I know kel-tec-innovations posted up the letter that is sent to the HR department of your work. Is this for all applications or only when you state that you need the CCW for work?

4)I got nailed by the BSNF Roailroad Police in 2012 but have misplaced the ticket with the actual violation code on it. I do have the citation number from my online payment. Should I go to the DMV and request a printout of my record to get the actual violation number that I was charged with? (Crossed an active railroad track at Goffs road in the middle of the desert - damn train was a mile away moving less than 10 miles per hour. Waited at the light before deciding to go. Other cars behind me also went but they all blew past me as I did the speed limit. Guess who got nailed? This guy ).

            5) Is anyone with a little experience able to take a look at my statement as to why I should be issued a CCW. I know that after the ruling "self-defense" is the only reason that needs to be stated but I'd rather show up with a clear paragraph or so.

DMotivate I can answer your question #1....

I called the SBCSO office and asked what I specifically needed to receive a CCW app and the woman Sarah (I think her name was) just told me to print it off the sheriff website and call to get an interview when I was finished. This seemed too easy. I was in the neighborhood so I stopped at the sheriff's office and asked for an application and the woman at the desk directed me to the sheriff's website and told me to print them up. I was assured that was good enough. Hope that helps.

Here's some qestions about the application -

For previous employers, I've had a lot of jobs between 5-15 years ago and some of those places are no longer in business. Do you think it will be a problem if my dates aren't exact? I just can't rememer the exact timeframes anymore.

Same goes with residentail addresses. Before owning my last 2 homes, I rented and bounced around quite often. I'm lucky to find the addresses, let alone the months or years. Don't have any old landlord agreements, as my safe was stolen several years back in a burglary.

Obviously, I'm going to try and answer as best I can and make some phone calls to find some info as well, but just curious how much it will hurt my chances if I'm off on my timeline by a few months or even a year. Any input appreciated, thanks.

In San Joaquin they were mainly concerned about the last 5 years being accurate. I had some general dates for beyond that and the Capt I interviewed with didnt seem to have any issues with it.

Do the best you can. When you have your interview and go over it with a BG investigator just mention that in that period of time you moved a lot/changed jobs a lot etc. Should not be an issue. Issues would be you leaving out things like that time you got arrested for drunk in public even though you weren't charged.
