Residency Requirement + additional 411
I just thought I would give this thread some 411 on residency requirement.
I had to renew my permit this year, I went to the 4 hours class and then went back the following day to fill out the renewal paperwork as they will not do paperwork and the class on the same day. There where 80 people signed up for the San Bernardino HQ class, and yes it was full.
I received a call about 4 weeks later (I started the renewal proses about 90 days before my permit expires) from a detective stating that my current lease only had 5 months left till expiration, and that I needed a lease with a minimum of 9 months to show residency in the county of SBD. I had to negotiate with my current landlord for an lease extension of at least 6 months (to qualify for the 9 month minimum requirement) and fax the paperwork to the detective (I also called to make sure it was received!!!). I should expect my new permit in 2-3 weeks. It will certainly benefit you if are a renter to make sure you have at least 9 months in your pocket because if you don't I was told I could not renew my permit.
It used to be one year but they changed the requirement to 9 months so be aware when you initially apply or renew.
To clarify a few things that might be mis-information on this thread here are a few of my questions and the answers provided by Office Hendrix.
1. Can you carry more then one firearm with you at a time even though you have 3 listed on your permit? Answer: No.
2. Can you carry into the Sheriffs department HQ when conducting CCW or other Business? Answer: No.
It violates department policy to carry on site unless you are an on duty LEO.
3. Can you carry standard capacity magazines in your carry firearm if they are pre-2000 ban and grandfathered in? Answer: No
10 rounds max unless you are LEO carrying off duty.
4. you must notify within 5 day of a law enforcement encounter where you have called the PD on yourself to report a possible unintentional exposure of your concealed firearm or have had to get a police report because you had to draw your firearm in self defense but did not have to fire it, and you must get a police report or the perp could report you brandishing and threatening them (you will be in deep sh*t if they report you before you report them).Failure to report either to SBCS could result in your permit being revoked.
Anymore questions, feel free to ask.More Gun Control Laws are Insane

Interesting. People seem to get different answers depending on who they speak with on this matter. I guess its best to play it safe and go no BUG.

Totally agree with everything you said. I really enjoyed the range day and learned quite a bit in the class. I believe that Capt. Marhoefer did an excellent job and presented the content in a fashion that was informative but also kept our attention with various videos, stories, etc. He also did a great job of giving us suggestions for what he called "Living a drama free life" which I really enjoyed and found helpful. For those of you who are worried about the "Shooting" portion of the range day, listen to Cpljbone and DO NOT WORRY about it. I would be more concerned about safe handling of your firearm (Which we should all be doing every time) and making sure that you can perform the following while keeping the firearm pointed in a safe direction:Originally posted by cpljboneAttended the class on the 10th at Apple Valley Gun Club. for those of you who are looking for a little more information, here's some key points:
*They are among us, they look at these forums specifically, they see what you post. Therefore, be wise about it.
*Bring a pen, you're gonna fill out a little bit more paperwork
*Make sure to bring your proper money order amounts, people were allowed to get them during lunch, but its definitely gonna slow things down for you.
*Whatever weapons you had checked during your interview at headquarters are the only ones you can qualify with. Don't try and sneak an extra one on at the class and expect it to fly
*The shoot is EASY. I don't know how to say it any better. I consider myself an average shooter at best and I almost thought it was cheating at how close we shot. Even those with a snubbie or 1" barrel will do fine. Of course, this is all dependent on if you actually know your weapons system.
*They truly do believe in all of this. Everyone there is doing it on a volunteer basis. The quality of the instruction reflects that. To an extent they are hindered based off what the "higher ups" say they can/can't do, but they really do try to make sure you are fully prepared with what you need to know. They will state what the law is, county regulation, county opinion, and personal opinion
All in all, was an excellent day spent. Looking forward to my permit!
1.Loading the firearm
2.Clearing a malfunction
3.Executing a reload
4.Rendering the gun safe
I know its basic stuff but I saw some people struggle a little bit with the things I mentioned above. This goes into my next point, which is the fact that everyone needs to remember that this class is not being put on with the purpose of teaching you how to shoot. Learn your way around your gun, get a little range time in, and its smooth sailing!
If all the CCW range days @ AVGC go how mine went, you will be in for a great day after making it to the end of the CCW process.
Definitely excited to pick up my permit and grats to those who made it through the process!Comment

The purpose of the "qualification" is to make sure you can safely handle your gun, not to determine if you can shoot like "Dirty Harry". When I went for my class many many moons ago, you only had to "qualify" with one of the three guns and they didn't even look at the target, they watched YOU. Did you handle the gun in an unsafe manner? Did you sweep off of target when you reloaded? When I had my class they told you flat out that it was up to you to get training, they just want to make sure you understand the law and that you aren't going to accidentally shoot somebody because you don't know how to safely handle a gun.Originally posted by cpljbone*The shoot is EASY. Hope you're packing soon!Comment

Start with Ontario PD and ask if they issue. If not, see what you need to do to get a letter from them. My city does not issue CCW's, but they will give you a letter that basically says they don't care if the Sherrif issues one if you meet the criteria.War is when your Government tells you who the enemy is......

There aren't any municipalities that I'm aware of that actually issue LTC's, but you will have to contact Ontario PD anyway. The first page of the SBCO app clearly states thatOther than that, the first thing you need to do to begin the process is to pick up an application in person at the SBCO SD headquarters in the City of SB. The app will outline all of the remaining steps involved in the procedure and all of the documentation required."If you live in a city where another agency is your police department, you must first apply for a license from that police department. If they are not issuing licenses, you must obtain a letter from them stating they do not object to the SBCO SD issuing a CCW license under our guidelines."

Called to schedule my interview today and was given January 7th. Six weeks seems reasonable given the holiday season.

I just came back from Ontario PD and the lady at the desk said that they were issuing CCW and gave me the application form. If I am denied my CCW do I than go to the San Bernardino Sheriff's to apply with them ? I have nothing on my record that would cause a denial.sigpic
