I searched all over the net for something I read on some attorney's or legal page where it was illegal or wrong for the local PD to charge a fee when its a 100% sure denial. Sorry looked for half and hour and couldn't locate it.

I would talk to the San Bernardino County Sheriff about the issue on the fee from local PD for denial letter. They should be able to help and resolve it.

Its either a denial letter, or a letter that they don't oppose SB county issuing
        you a CCW.

Either way SB sheriff wants to see some kind of letter from your local PD.

My local PD gave me a letter that they don't oppose the CCW

Atleast now you don't need a good cause.

Thank you so much for the help! A letter that they don't oppose sounds like a good alternative. I'll see what they say

I'm also going to spend some time searching the legalities of charging when they know they're going to deny me. It doesn't seem right

Why do you say "Atleast now you don't need a good cause."?

Because he's wrong. You need "good cause", but "good cause" after the Peruta decision the other day, is simply "self defense".

If you mean San Bernardino, it's been virtually shall issue for quite a while.

Given Peruta, should I still wait until I've been living in the county at least a year before applying? It will be one year in July.

Yes. The residency requirement has nothing to do with "good cause."

Hey you guys SB county no longer needs denial letters before you can apply with them!!!! I spoke with someone about 15 minutes ago.

If you're in SB County don't apply through your local PD first. Apply straight with the county

I started a thread here with the link to the forms you need to fill out

Wanted to get everyones feedback on the "Good Cause" reason below:
My wife and I have begun purchasing and re-habilitating old houses for resale/renting-I need to meet contractors at said properties to secure estimates prior to bidding and this places me at unoccupied Repossessed houses later in the evening, this also can and does require me to carry sums of cash on me to pay said contractors

                              Sounds reasonable.
