Qualifying is super easy. You'll shoot 5 rounds, reload and shoot 5 more rounds. This will be done at 5 yards on a B27 target. You will need to put 8 of the 10 rounds in the 8 ring.

        Agreed!
Scanning through 7,000+ posts takes time but there is a lot of good info buried in there.
        Have fun and good luck.

Does Apple Valley Gun Club use the same criteria for a passing score? 8 out of 10 hits in the red area marked on this B27 target, at 5 yards? I always freak out a little when I need to qualify, and now for some reason, I am pulling my shots a tad left with my PM9 last time out.

I was expecting it to be like that when I requalified earlier this year.

Was not the case. And I can't speak to AVGC as I went to Prado. At Prado they put up a brand new B27 target for me and the other shooter there. We were told to aim for center mass and that we needed to get 8 of 10 in the 9 ring. We were still shooting at 5 yards, so that was the same.

            Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

The requirement is the Sheriff's. All trainers must use it.

                Should be the same.
Did you catch in the renewal videos where the Deputy was talking about his shots being off?
Finger placement on the trigger was his issue. Too much or too little finger pad on the trigger.

Yeah, I actually remembered his comment when I started pushing my shots left and tried making adjustments to my finger. My problem is my trigger finger is partially numb due to nerve damage (pinched nerve in my neck). Shooting has become very painful, and I just don't get out as much as I should. That, and the Kahr is tiny. I did ok with my G26. The LCR, well sort of, still struggling to keep my shots up where they belong. Sight picture on the LCR (big dot) is to cover the point of aim with the front sight. Anywho, thanks all for the replies to my questions.

When I qualified one of my guns was a new one that I hadn't shot much. Missed one too many on the first round. The RO at West End had me shoot another 10 rounds. Was good to go then! Good luck and you've got this!

I have always shot with both hands thanks to my Uncle Sam. I'm left eye dominant so they made me shoot and qualify left handed.

I now suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome in my right hand, my dominant hand. But thanks to my training I'm just as good if not better with my left hand.

In fact this last time qualifying my right hand was hurting pretty good. I ended up shooting my 380 with my left hand and my Kahr CW9 and Sig P320 with my right hand.

I'm not sure if the RO noticed that I switched hands or not, but nothing was said about it.

Go practice with your off hand. Remember, you're only shooting at 5 yards and there's no time limit.

I am taking 50 rounds per gun, hopefully I won't need it.

The state law requires the Sheriff to establish and publish qualification standards. All instructors must certify the standard was met.

Performance anxiety. Stop trying to qualify and go back to shooting for fun.

Are you suddenly pulling shots, or are you having neurological issues?

Excuses. Small guns; large guns; striker/hammer fired. Seriously. You’re shooting at five yards for 5 rounds with a reload of five rounds. That’s a car length. Apple Valley charges $25 for an orientation to the qualification. Take it, get rid of the anxiety, then shoot the Course of Fire and enjoy life.

I recently read that the RO can give you two (2) do overs if you can’t hit 80% from 5 yards.

Stop worrying, relax and do the work.

Kinda both, but most likely pulling/pushing the shots left. The Kahr is a newer gun and I only have about 200 (breaking in) rounds down range with it. I didn't notice having any issues a few weeks ago, but then again I wasn't trying to see if I could qualify with it. Probably just stressing myself out, and as you wrote, relax and just pretend it's just me and my grandkids out shooting. Thanks.

                              Update:
I had gotten myself all worked up over nothing!
I had my requalification session at Apple Valley Gun Club yesterday evening (Friday). Lots of people there doing the same thing. The club was very organized, and even with the crowd that showed up, ran us through the process fairly quickly. By the time it was my turn to shoot, the target had a big hole right in the sweet spot, so I placed all my shots with all three guns, right through the hole. RO says "good job!", and I was done.

My last qualification the the targets were pretty torn up so we shot the head instead. I shot my hardest to shoot first, a .38spl snubbie with no issues, the rest was cake.

Seriously, 5 yards is pretty easy, it would be like failing the FSC test, but I've seen people fail at both We had 2 people that seemed like they never fired their weapon before.

Like others have said there is no time limit so just relax and shoot, it's just a little intimidating the first time.
