I have my interview scheduled for later this month. Any important info I need going in? How long does the rest of the process generally take after the interview? I see on the website it says they are closed from mid December to mid January. Think I’ll be able to finish the process and pickup my permit before then? Thanks!

            Hi All,

Can anyone recommend a CCW Instructor that provides private lessons for 1-2 people? This is for the CCW initial 16 hour qualification.
            Thanks.

Yes....You can take any firearms training you want whenever you want to.

CA PEN 26165 provides the guidance for CCW training. The training agency won't officially tell you to get the training until after your Good Cause is approved. This protects applicants from incurring training costs only to find their GC failed (see subdivision (e), below).

If you are confident in your background and Good Cause (Sac=Self-Defense), then taking the class prior to the "authorization", while a risk, is a way to cut the timeline.
26165. (a) For new license applicants, the course of training for issuance of a license under Section 26150 or 26155 may be any course acceptable to the licensing authority that meets all of the following criteria:

                  (1) The course shall be no less than eight hours, but shall not be required to exceed 16 hours in length.

                  (2) The course shall include instruction on firearm safety, firearm handling, shooting technique, and laws regarding the permissible use of a firearm.

                  (3) The course shall include live-fire shooting exercises on a firing range and shall include a demonstration by the applicant of safe handling of, and shooting proficiency with, each firearm that the applicant is applying to be licensed to carry.

                  (b) A licensing authority shall establish, and make available to the public, the standards it uses when issuing licenses with regards to the required live-fire shooting exercises, including, but not limited to, a minimum number of rounds to be fired and minimum passing scores from specified firing distances.

                  (c) Notwithstanding subdivision (a), the licensing authority may require a community college course certified by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, up to a maximum of 24 hours, but only if required uniformly of all license applicants without exception.

                  (d) For license renewal applicants, the course of training may be any course acceptable to the licensing authority, shall be no less than four hours, and shall satisfy the requirements of paragraphs (2) and (3) of subdivision (a). No course of training shall be required for any person certified by the licensing authority as a trainer for purposes of this section, in order for that person to renew a license issued pursuant to this article.

                  (e) The applicant shall not be required to pay for any training courses prior to the determination of good cause being made pursuant to Section 26202.

Q: Going by post #31 at:

starting at the bottom and working up, what is the weakest acceptable GC for Sacto?

The reason I ask is that last I heard “daily risks” (Dark Green) and “recreational risks” (Light Green), were acceptable. But this recent news story video says Sac SO has been denying ~70% of new apps. Has Sac SO tightened their GC standard or were these applicants denied for other reasons (GMC?)?

I don’t know. Nothing has been reported here regarding a change in GC from the past 8 years of “self-defense”.

With the influx of new gun owners and applicants, GMC might be a stopper, bit with the standardized course of fire (BSIS qualification) a large portion of new gun owners may not be able to qualify with their guns. The standards require 50 rounds of practice and 50 rounds for score, including kneeling and weak hand shooting on a timed course of fire.

But, 70% failure rate seems high. If true, I doubt it’s due to GC problems.

Renewal started yesterday. Hopefully, mine is as fast as the recent renewals.

I don't know what is going on but I submitted a change of address modification about a week ago and still haven't heard anything back. Only had my license a few months so maybe they think it's shady? Only reason I'm updating is because I purchased a home it's not like I was evicted from my last place for being a delinquent. Sent a follow up email asking if more info was needed and never got a response, maybe tomorrow??

It was just an old plywood boat, with a '75 Johnson, with electric choke. A young boy, two hands on the wheel, I can't replace the way it made me feel.
