Was able to move my interview ahead to next month instead of February of next year! Can't wait! Now I have to start preparing!

Jeeez...if you're an unemployed realtor in this market, I would worry about your career choice...or competence.

OK, no one else seems to want to take a run at this, so,
            Here.
            We.
            Go.

(Caveats: I don’t know you; I don’t know your specifics; all I know is what you’ve written, and how this program has worked for me for a decade. I’m not criticizing you. All of my comments are based solely on what you’ve written and my impressions (based on experience) of what they may mean.

If this upsets you, talk to someone you think who cares, but remember, I cared enough about this to write it.)

Then she keeps pressing me, obviously implying there's something missing. Turns out, I had absolutely, totally forgot about a failure to appear in court for a traffic stop when I was 20... 20 years ago! She couldn't give me any info about it and she did a really good job at making it look like I was lying about it all and purposely withholding info.
Basic rule: the single person most knowledgeable about your life is you…you lived it. We can, sometimes, forget stuff, but we’re still the best resource. One could understand why a law enforcement officer might be skeptical about this omission, as it would entail forgetting a traffic stop which resulted in more than a simple citation…you were required to appear before a judge. Then, you didn’t show up, so that got recorded, too.

Upon confrontation, if you had acted in astonishment and begged to be forgiven for forgetting the issue, you might have been able to slip by, as I doubt they care about a 20-year old traffic incident. But they seem to have given you ample opportunity to fold, and you didn’t. They probably came to a conclusion that you were knowingly trying to hide the fact that you ignored a directive of the Court and failed to appear. That will really annoy law enforcement charged with determining if you will follow the prescribed rules for CCW issuance. They’ll also wonder if there are any other things which you forgot which they might have missed.

The Sac Sheriff has been under extreme scrutiny for his CCW issuance, and the staff can’t make a mistake and let someone through who might forget his or her responsibilities under the program. The press will pillory the boss and screw the pooch for the rest of us.

Just as you are the best witness to your past acts, you are also your best character reference. If you’ve blown your credibility with the agency, they really don’t care who else says you’re a good guy. I suspect that’s where you wound up. Oh, and by dragging your LEO friends into the character reference stuff, you’ve diminished their standing with their peers. Essentially, their endorsements are a direct critique of the review panel's (3 Captains, last I heard) decision. I'm sure they are now appreciative of the situation.

This seems an odd inquiry. If this is the “traffic stop” you referenced above, then a skeptic might think there is more to your story.

A misdemeanor is a serious criminal offense. Unlike a simple infraction ticket that is handled in traffic court, a misdemeanor is handled in the Criminal Division of the court house. Misdemeanors are punishable by jail time of up to one year, very high fines, and a loss of driving privileges. If you fail to go to your court hearing, your driver’s license will most likely be suspended, the court can charge you with another misdemeanor, and can issue a warrant for your arrest. Misdemeanors require a mandatory appearance in court.

Simple “traffic stops” usually don’t rise to MD level. So, this minor traffic stop you completely forgot about was something much more significant, reducing the probability of such an oversight.

But those would be the thoughts of a skeptic…or a cop.

Reducing the MD to an infraction at this late date means nothing. It was 20 years ago. What they care about is what you’ve done lately, and it appears to them that, for some reason, you decided to not divulge the fact that you had the MD traffic stop and also failed to divulge that you blew off the court.

            Yes.

            1. Anticipate that your next application will be rejected. All of this is now part of the record at the agency, and when you submit your new application you NEED TO STATE YOU HAVE BEEN DENIED. Don’t forget it.

            2. Include the MD and failure to appear on your next application with a short, concise statement of how you screwed up. Emphasize YOU SCREWED UP. They aren’t excited about excuses. The are interested in whether you’ve learned.

            3. Emphasize the learning which has taken place in this process. You now know that every past act is important and the IA needs full information to make a valid call. Emphasize the excellence of your existence since you no longer forget important parts of your life.

            4. Tell the truth. If you forgot something, that's the truth. But, you have to tell it before they explain it to you.

Tough. It was your application, and your interview. You brought this on yourself. The people who have been successful have followed the guidance, told the truth and moved forward. To line yourself up in comparison with them demeans them and says a lot about your basic character. You’re discouraged; they’re not. It’s on you.

            Best.

                            Hey all,

I overheard swine at at gun store say to one of the employees that their. cCw class instructor said the Sac Sheriff does not allow .22lr caliber firearms on people's permits. I've been poking around on the CCw page on their website and do not see anything saying this is the case. Does anyone know if this is true?

Hey, thanks for the reply. It seems I missed that list. It was tucked a at in the drop downs. The list does not specifically say .22lr. I see the list says "rifle caliber weapons," but the examples being AR and AK pistols seems to imply they don't want people using intermediate center-fire rifle calibers. They're really counting a 22 rimfire caliber that pushes a 40 grain projectile 1050 fps (on the high end) as belonging to the same group of firearms as AR pistols?
