Looks like no requirement in statute. Is there a caselaw definition of "promptly?"PC 26185(a)(2)
Upon receipt of the fingerprints and the fee as prescribed in Section 26190, the department shall promptlyComment

Very confusing info. to be had here, and it will make people ask more questions than can be answered.
THERE IS NO MANUAL SEARCH THAT IS DONE BECAUSE AFIS HAS ALREADY COME UP WITH A MATCH. The new prints are then assigned to the established record under the established CII number. Everyone who has been printed in California for criminal or applicant purposes is assigned a CII number.
The California Department of Justice (DOJ) is mandated to maintain the statewide criminal record repository for the State of California. In this capacity, sheriff, police and probation departments, district attorney offices, and courts submit arrest and corresponding disposition information. The DOJ uses this information to compile records of arrest and prosecution, known as “RAP sheets,” for individuals and disseminates the information for law enforcement and regulatory (employment and licensing) purposes.
If a person has been fingerprinted, but the new prints do not hit on anything then AFIS will assign the new prints a new CII number and create a new record. This happens a lot.
So that is a bit of the process.Primum Non Nocere

I've been Live Scanned three times before, all for background checks for government employment. Once in 2007, then 2010, then 2013. All three were at a County sheriff (not Sac County, though). Should this speed up the response time for me?Comment

Doubt it because by supervisor did his live scan on 2/4 and still nothing and he gets his background check yearly for volunteer firefighting.Comment

K everyone, I'll take the blame for this one. I went forward with my CCW training and qualification even though I didnt get livescan back, so that just threw it all out of kilter and am increasing the process time.
I'm thinking of washing my car next to ensure I cant make use of that new battery I got for my motorcycle.Comment

The most recent anecdotal feedback seems to point to that. Just in the last 4 pages or so, more folks on the long end and the one that took 5+ months. I am near 45 right now myself.Have they actually slowed it down? Seems the people who have received their results recently report 25-45 days. If you call, the Sheriff says "Wait until it's been more than 90 days, then we'll start looking into things." But I haven't heard anyone say their results actually took 90+ days.
Go back 10 pages or so and it was in the 30ish range, but depends on how you interpret I imagine. Just think, we both ended up great than the "next Thursday meeting'.
But I dont expect anything quicker than 60 to 90 myself. Especially based on the complete bottleneck I observed at the Livescan facility with everyone being turned away the hour plus I sat there with the other dozen waiting.Comment

So I have my first initial appointment next Thursday the 16th. On the application, when it asks for moving violations and accidents within the last 5 years, did y'all just list whats on your driving record per DMV print out, or did you list every conviction although you may have cleared it by traffic school? I ask because I got 2 speeding tickets in 2012. I took traffic school for one. One shows on my printout. Do I still list the violation that cleared?Comment

LOL I did my training in the end of January well before my initial interview in early February and did my live scan on March 3rd. Talk about doing it backwards.K everyone, I'll take the blame for this one. I went forward with my CCW training and qualification even though I didnt get livescan back, so that just threw it all out of kilter and am increasing the process time.

The general advice here is to list everything, even if it's been more than 5 years. So I have my first initial appointment next Thursday the 16th.
