As is said, I know the process as I have my LTC and it was issued by the SSD. I've been through the process. It took me a year and a half from the time I scheduled my initial appointment to the time I received my LTC via certified mail. I have been helping my mother through and my question pertained specifically to the lack of AVAILABILITY of issuance appointments. At the time I asked, there were NO issuance, modification or renewal appointments available. My experience is that they have been much more plentiful and, yes, they are very quick and easy. I checked back today (checking daily) and was able to get my mom in. I also called a friend who has been trying to get an initial for about 6 months and he's now scheduled. Modifications are still unavailable. I'm sure that is due to backlog.

Just got this email regarding modifications. What's this about? Can't be "backlog" if they only let you make address changes. This doesn't smell right.

Until further notice the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department will NOT be accepting appointments for "weapon" modifications to CCW Permits. We are ONLY accepting modification appointments for "address changes".

I would quote the email, but it states not to.

Sometimes things really are as simple as they seem. There are tons of new applicants, and they're shifting priority to them. Mods for address change are obviously higher priority than adding or subtracting a gun; if you move and can't modify your license within the specified interval, it becomes invalid.

I think some of the ultra-worrying about everything they do down there could probably be dialed back a bit.

Just had my initial appointment to turn in the NEW form as 7/13 . I have a weird question. Everything went fine we got a bit off topic. They didn't have me fill out an envelope? Someone else who was there today his interviewer had him fill out an envelope.? Could my interviewer forgot or is that a sign?

Anyone noticed the new DOJ form as of 7/11/13. Section 7 "If the CCW license is desired for self-protection, the protection of others, or for the protection of large sums of money or valuable property, you are required to explain and provide good cause for issuance of the license. For example, has your life or property been threatened or jeopardized? Explain incidents and included dates, times, locations, and names of police agencies to which these incidents were reported."

Does this mean that the good cause letter is no longer valid and we must explain it in full detail???
You know where you are? You're in the jungle baby.... You're gonna.............................................

Sounds like my defense statement "Defense of myself and my family" won't work anymore.

Next time maybe I will add "Defense of myself and my family from people like George Zimmerman, James Holmes and Adam Lanza".

That should cover all sides of the argument.

I seem to recall that same wording on my app from a few months ago, but the "Defense of self and family" statement still worked. I think the form is DOJ standard but the approval of the reason for the request still remains with the local sheriff who may or may not require more info. That's my understanding, but I'm no expert.

What was the previous wording? I don't recall.

If you read the first like 2 pages it says don't do section 7.You have to do it in front of the sheriff.I had my appointment and gave him my statement on the paper.they attach it to the app.I think he put in the box to refer to statement. He really didn't ask for any incident or anything. He was pretty laid back.
