Do you really plan on carrying more than 3 guns in your rotation? Most people I talk to use this method: 1 medium frame gun for winter or higher risk situations. 1 sub-compact for deep concealment and summer, 1 revolver.

Even then, 95% of the time people carry their subcompact in Southern California.

The question asked was "How many guns can you have on your permit?" I simply answered that question. If they want to run six guns on their permit, that's their call so long as that's the sheriffs current policy.

On a side note: Rumors hold no weight. Policy does.

I'm just giving him a heads up on what to expect depending on when his interview is. You are correct on the current policy and I didn't say you weren't.

However; the more guns you add on your permit the longer it takes to process and the more it slows down everything according to the deputies in the CCW unit. That's not a rumor, that's a fact. So if there's no pressing need to add all 6, then if you want to speed up your process and everyone else's, stick to what you will actually carry.

I was just thinking one in my car, one in my truck, one in my backpack and 3 in rotation for my EDC.

            .
OC only allows three, but I would love to have more options as well.

That being said, I agree the additional delays (for everyone) are not justifiable...

Another needless step in the process. They could just leave it as "legally owned" being the requirement. Then you could carry whatever you like, as long as it's yours.

What is the benefit of tracking specific guns on a permit?

I don't have the time to look it up, but I remember thinking that the law actually requires the guns to be listed on the permit individually. In that regard, Sheriff's can only do so much, they can't change the requirements of the law, only how they implement them.

I know. My post wasn't meant as being snarky toward anyone here or the Sheriff. More being snarky toward our overbearing system of issue in CA.

There are too many restrictions here that accomplish absolutely nothing except to make life more difficult.

Seems this state operates from the position that people just can't be trusted. This should be an outrage, but seems to be generally accepted. Such a shame.

I have 6 on mine. I agree that I could trim that down to 3 like the majority of the state if necessary. It would be a shame as I would drop the LCP and I like to pocket carry that one. I would have to opt up to larger caliber if only 3 were allowed but not a deal breaker.

The state requires the gun you want to carry be listed on your permit but it does not put a limit on what size or type of gun you can carry, There is no reason for the county to be concerned with the type of gun you carry as long as you can legally own it. I do think that maybe a upper limit on the caliber may be in order, The common sense way this should work is if you purchase a new firearm there should be no penalty for carrying it as long as you report it to the CCW unit within 30 days of purchase. The only thing that should be required to get a CCW is pass a federal background check and take a firearm safety course and pass a qualifying with firearm course. The Sheriff thinks by restricting the permits it make things safer for his officers but that not the case at all because the people that the officers have to fear are already packing without permits .

That is my .02 cents on the subject.

I hope they will always accept "Off Rooster" firearms, my (2) best firearms on my permit are 3rd Gen S&W "Off Rooster" firearms.

They allow off roster firearms. a lot of the guys at work have their CCW in Riverside and most are carrying a Ruger LCP which is off roster. So far none of the guys have had any problems thus far.

My first question is crafting s good cause statement, this has me a bit confused. I understand that self defense is a want and not a need and will not cut it.

Does anyone have a template style letter that I would be able to use in regards to the three letters required? Or what did and didn't work.

Any other suggestions you guys may have?

My current situation is that my job is located in Fontana, I work in a pretty bad part of town between 2:30pm and midnight, I am a swing shift supervisor and during the course of my job I have had three threats made against me. When the police where contacted during each event, they would not come out and take a statement nor record the issue due to no violence had happened. All three threats where made towards myself.

                              Anyone?

Two of my three are off roster. It makes sense that they would continue accept this, since guns are dropped from the roster all the time, for many reasons. Think of the work involved to contact everyone who had a gun fall off the roster and then reissue their permits.

They will not take a gun that was sold via SSE until the DROS is "cleaned up" by DROSing it again since they are normally registered as two different calibers. There are several pawn shops that are familiar with this, but since it is okay in Riverside to have a spouses gun on your permit, we PPTed them to each other.

You can use the OPLAW form and save money and avoid the 10 day jail time, but it can be extremely slow.

As it has been mentioned many times, the deputies in the CCW office are hard working and extremely helpful.
