Lets hope the extra staff are approved and the years are knocked down to at least 3 to 6 months. Sign up Scotty... Good luck and welcome to Riverside County.

I called to schedule yesterday and left a message. Just waiting for a call back now, I guess.

You got this! Be patient and you'll be turning in your paperwork in no time.

Having come from NC a few years ago where I had my permit in less than 30 days, I'll try not to get too antsy.

Great news, I'll get all of my paperwork in order(even though I'm 6 months out) just in case.

According to the video news report linked in an earlier post, Sheriff Sniff is asking the BoS to provide additional funding in the next "fiscal year." RivCo's new fiscal year begins July 1. Then they have to hire a deputy, which likely means either a transfer from another law enforcement agency or a new hire from the academy (since the sheriff doesn't want to pull anyone off a different assignment). So additional help is probably 8 or more months away.

My appointment is on June 2017. Can I bother the folks who completed the course about the course of fire and what firearm you used? I plan on carrying something I already have. I don't see much sense in buying a CCW specific semi auto only to be turned down and being stuck with it.

If you are doing the course at BCTC, it is pretty simple. You fire 6 rounds (5 for 5 shot revolvers) from 15, then 10, and finally 7 yards. Keep your hits center mass. The targets are huge. If you want to see how big while at a local range, look for the B27 size. They do not score the hits, but do want to make sure you can hit a man size target, along with having safe handling skills. If you start to be stupid, they WILL call you out on it. You do that course of fire for each of your guns, and you are done.

                      CCW Wait

One of the biggest hang-ups is waiting for your Live Scan results. Right now the results are 3 - 4 months out. This is actually BS. Cal DOJ has taken it upon themselves to delay as long as possible. The reasoning is the Live Scan has to go through numerous data bases. My daughter is in the process of adopting and she had to get a Live Scan. Those go through the same data bases as someone applying for a CCW. Her results came back in 5 days. How do i know all of this? I worked for SBPD for 13 years as a manager. One of my responsibilities was overseeing the Live Scan operations. The system is entirely automated, so there is no days off, vacation, sick days, etc..... Unfortunately, the Sheriff's are at the mercy of Kamala Harris, who thinks she should have the authority to delay as long as possible, Live Scan approvals. There are rare instances where DOJ will get a hit and will have to research by hand. This is usually a result of same or nearly same name. Those are rectified, usually, in a week or so. I do have to give RCSO a lot of credit. They are doing the best they can with what they have got.

This is how mine went as well. My time from initial interview to approval was only 3 months and 10 days, interview 4-14-15 and call/approval 7-24-15. I emailed shortly before going out of state to let them know that I would have little to no electronic contact while backpacking at Philmont Scout Ranch and that I was not being evasive or was no longer interested. The return email said that my background was complete except they were still waiting for Live Scan results back from DOJ. I did not clarify whether that was CA DOJ or Federal DOJ. Either way the Live Scan seems to be the slow down part of the process unless the applicant has a complicated background to investigate.

Okay sounds good. My prospects are a 442 and a 3" LCR. With no time pressure and regular pressure loads, the 442 is a kitten.

Had my renewal appt. yesterday. Two of the hardest working guys I know. I hope they get help soon, they are terribly swamped as they have been for some time now! Lord knows they are doing the very best they can with what they have. Talk about swimming upstream..... Glad I did it when I did it initially....
