It used to be that you would fill out a form that had more questions than the online form. Have those been removed or do you fill out some form after the online one and answer more questions?
Also what is the interview like? What are they asking and wanting to know?
As for paying for different things can I pay for the application then when approved take the class, are those the only two things you pay for?Comment

Update
12/1/2017 On-line application done
12/22/2017 Training done
12/22/2017 Live Scan done
01/25/2018 Interview done. End of interview response was to wait a few weeks for an email to come pick up.
4/9/2018 I sent a polite email asking about the status.
4/10/2018 OCSD referred me to a psychological examination, in ENCINO!.....lucky me.
5/17/2018 was the first available appointment to complete the examination which the results were not available to me but sent to the OCSD.
5/23/2018 I received the automated call and an email to pick up my CCW.
5/24/2018 I picked up my CCW.
I never had a psychological examination. I was told that I was randomly selected (or was it really my email following up?). The psychological examination was not a big deal and I am wondering if it is a good idea for the OCSD to require all CCW holders to go through this.Comment

Got Mine.
3/20/18 - Interview. Had completed training and uploaded docs.
3/26/18 - additional clarification docs uploaded
5/21/18 - license ready for pickup. There in less than and hour to pick up...
Was a good process. All the deputies were very helpful and informative.Comment

As a current CCW holder, I want to add another gun to my license (Orange Co). In the past, I've added a gun after getting qualified with it over at The Firing Line in Huntington Beach (via "Security Training Center", a training provider).
The issue is that Security Training Center is only at The Firing Line on Sundays; they are available on other days, but up in Burbank or other distant locations.
I would like to try to get qualified on this new gun this Saturday somewhere in OC since I'll won't be able to make it this Sunday to The Firing Line.
Can anyone recommend a place in Orange Co (or south LA County--e.g. Long Beach, etc) where I can go this Saturday, or maybe somewhere in the evening during the week?
Went to OnTarget. Was in and out of there in 30 minutes or so with certificate in-hand. Their firearm qualification test was 200% easier than what Security Training Center has you do.
All I had to do was shoot 20 rounds into a two B-27-like targets (see similar target below). All shots had to be inside the 8 circle. No head-shots.
- Shoot 10 rounds at 7 yards
Change target - Shoot 10 rounds at 5 yards
Bada-bing, bada-boom. Done!
At STC (a year ago), we had to:
- Shoot 14 rounds in 45 seconds at 7 yards (three reloads, 6, 6 & 2)
- Shoot 6 rounds in 10 seconds at 7 yards
- Shoot 12 rounds in 25 seconds at 7 yards (incl reload)
- 6 strong hand unsupported
- 6 weak hand unsupported - 3 rounds in 4 seconds at 5 yards (in 2 stages, total of 6 rounds)
- 2 rounds in 3 seconds at 3 yards (in 3 stages, total of 6 rounds)

That's awesome! If I recall correctly, OCSD recently changed the qualifying requirement for adding a CCW firearm so that might explain the streamlined process you experienced.Went to OnTarget. What is needed for good cause on the application? I don't have anything unique that I can claim. I've had friends who got through because they are realtors, own businesses, or even just sell watches on Craigslist a lot.
I live in LF, work in Santa Ana at a normal office job. I don't go to the range an excessive amount. I do hunt once or twice a year. Also, is church security accepted if the church issues a letter saying they would like members to have a CCW?Comment

Yes. Write out why you need/want a permit. If you cannot articulate this they will not issue a permit - it's pretty darn simple. If you need peer review ask for it.What is needed for good cause on the application? I don't have anything unique that I can claim. They are not denying for writing a GCS - only for NOT writing one.

@bigbob76 Well that's the helpful community spirit I expected!
But seriously, I've read every post on here since late last year and there's been two others that asked similar questions to mine that were roundly ignored or told to read previous posts as well. It seems like salty people like you assume these questions have been answered, but they haven't. At least not recently enough to be sure it's relevant.
I get that I need a GCS other than self defense. It needs to be well written. But as similarly boring people have been wondering, what are some GCS that we can use?Comment

"I want to be able to protect myself and my family when away from home. Sometimes I work late and am on the road after the sun sets. My wife is busy during the day so I may fill up her car with gas after the kids go to sleep. We are often out in highly public and crowded areas on the weekend. I believe the threat of an active shooter scenario is greater than it was a decade ago. I am not looking to be a hero, but if there was a violent threat against myself or my family, I would want to do whatever I can to protect them."
Come on.Comment
