They ask you to bring it so just bring it. They didn't look at mine but I needed it to verify that the serial listed on the training matched with the serials on my permit.
You don't have to list all guns when you submit the application. You can add or edit your guns up until your final appointment but each time you request to change it, that could add more wait time to your process.Thinking of applying for a permit in Orange County. For those that have been down this road before,
Do I need to own and list all guns I plan to carry when I submit my application? (I've got a compact on my "Christmas list' already, but would buy now if I had to).
Would submitting the application with a completed Livescan and training certificate help?
Thanks in advance!
Submitting the application with completed livescan and training wouldn't hurt but you risk wasting money on those items if your Good Cause is not accepted. Also, if the process takes a long time, your livescan may no longer be valid and you will have to get another one done.
You can try calling to see if they have you in the system to be scheduled for an appointment. At this time though, they are really busy so there's a slim chance they will squeeze you in. There was 20+ people being issued a permit when I went and that was just for 1 appointment slot. They have appointments every half hour, so they are issuing as fast as they can.
Waits vary from 2 weeks up to 2 months. Try calling to confirm that they have you ready to be scheduled.Comment

03/28/17 Called to inquire about my long wait time, they confirmed I was to be scheduled
03/30/17 Emailed for Final pickup for 04/05/07
Just be patient guys. It took about 8 months for me from initial appointment to pick up but it's well worth it. If you're waiting too long to receive an appointment, just call an talk to someone. Ask them to check on their system.
I really appreciate the hard work that OCSD are doing in issuing LTCs. They're working really hard over there.Comment

Now, in regards to good cause, how would you know whether or not your "good cause" is actually good enough? Do they tell you at your first initial interview or contact you a few days after your initial interview asking for more?
If it wasn't would they even go as far as performing the residency check?Comment

Most have been told at their first interview. They won't do your res check until you have a solid GC. They won't want to waste their time if they're not reasonably sure you aren't going to move along in the process. Now, in regards to good cause, how would you know whether or not your "good cause" is actually good enough? You'll have a very good idea if your GC is acceptable. The interviewing officer will give you their opinion on it. If they know your GC will not pass they don't even want to waste everyone's time with trying to submit it.Now, in regards to good cause, how would you know whether or not your "good cause" is actually good enough? You can always ask after the interview if you should proceed with training and they will indicate whether it's looking good or if you should hold off.Comment

Timeline
8/15/16 Requested an Interview date (2/23/17 was the date)
11/6/16 Training and Live scan
2/23/17 Interview
3/6/17 Residency Check
4/5/17 Email for appointment to pick up CCW
Pick up Date is 4/13/17!!!
8 month process. I feel that I saved myself some time by having all of my training and live scan completed prior to my interview.
The only hiccup was they (OCSD) contacted me a few days ago and told me one of my three guns that was on my application was not registered to me. WTF. Not stolen just not registered to me. This was a gun that I bought (used) at the OC gun show about 10 years ago. And for the life of me I can’t remember where the heck I had the gun DROS’d at. I think it was a gun shop in La Mirada or Whitter?? Anyone remember some small shops that have closed in that area. And of course I can’t find any paperwork. So any suggestions on how to fix that please let me know.
But they just dropped that gun from my app and kept the other two on. All things considering I’m stoked to have earned the privilege to carry in CA.Comment

Fill out the form below, wait until it gets in the system and then submit a change/add a gun. If it gets registered within six months of your training they should accept your original training cert, rather than having to requailfy with the gun. Training certs are generally good for six months.Orange County CCW Victory

I will be moving to Orange County for work in about four months. I am moving from Oregon which is a shall-issue state, so I'm brushing up on CA gun laws and the Orange County CCW application process. I'm able to find almost all the information I want online, but I'm not sure what "good cause" is exactly. Where I'm from I simply wrote "self defense" and got approved for my CCW in two months. Do I have to be transporting valuables or protecting something to be considered "good cause"? I'll be working for a company that deals with offender monitoring (ankle bracelets and the like) and "clients" on parole/probation, but I'll be in the IT department, so not exactly high risk to myself.
So what exactly is "good cause" when it comes to applying for an Orange County CCW? My Googling skills are failing me here.
Thank you for your time.Last edited by JuggernautOfWar; 04-10-2017, 4:01 AM.Comment

...feeling triumphant!
One final note about the OCSD process: when I did my interview, the IO was pretty pessimistic, basically saying, "if i submit this, it will not be approved". this was in stark contrast to everyone else's opinion that had seen my GC, so my takeaway was that not all IO's are particularly savvy with predicting on-the-spot the liklihood of issuance. indeed, having spoken to another IO, i found mine to be a little standoffish (aka poopy pants), and not overly helpful or encouraging. ymmv.
