Hey Folks, just a quick timeline post for my newly issued permit:

    1/7/16 - Appointment Request
    5/11/16 - Interview
    5/25/16 - DOJ Print Submission
6/11 & 12 - CCW Training @ Artemis in Lake Forest (HIGHLY RECOMMEND)
    7/5/16 - Conditional Approval Received
    11/22/16 - Final Appointment/Permit Issued

    DOJ took FOREVER!

Very thankful that OCSD is willing to issue permits. The deputy that interviewed me gave some good feedback to help me better articulate my good cause and when I attended the training @ Artemis in Lake Forest the deputies that work there part time or were retired were amazing and gave some insight as to how receptive OCSD was of CCW permit holders.

Yeah...I'm getting kind of antsy at the moment. Anyone have a guess about how much longer I'll be waiting?

      CCW Timeline:
      Initial Appointment Request - 4/8/16
      CCW Training - 7/17/16
      Livescan Request - 7/17/16
Initial Appointment and Interview - 8/18/16
      Residency Check - 8/21/16
      Conditional Approval - 10/21/16
...now just waiting for Livescan results and Final Appointment....

You might email them about livescan results - they are due now and maybe ready to submit to LT.

          CCW

It took about 2 months after the conditional to get my final appointment. However, they did email me about a month afterward with the final appointment date. Hope this helps.

Just 411 info. OCSD CCW Unit is very busy. Went today to pickup my permit with an 1115 hrs. appointment. When waiting, they had 4 people scheduled for an initial interview at 1100 hrs. While in the office doing the paperwork, another person was also there for pickup. I asked him when did he apply. He told me in Dec., 2015.

Here is my timeline so far:

              Interview request: 3/10/16
              Initial interview: 7/22/16
              Live Scan: 7/25/16

I have given the front desk a call and they are still waiting on the DOJ it seems. It has been over 18 weeks since I did the live scan.

I'm also waiting and hoping to hear something soon. My livescan was July 19th, so that puts me at about 19-1/2 weeks. Conditional approval was September 7th.

The automated Livescan line, still says "DOJ and FBI scans are still in process" but I have heard that the hotline is not up to date.

I recently emailed the CCW Unit to do a quick check on the status of my Livescan (sent 7/17/16), and this is what they replied.

                    "Hello sir,

It is taking them about 6 months to give us the results on the live scan.

                    -CCW Unit"

From 4.5 months to 6 months...sheezus, they must be busy.

Seems DOJ still utilizes one person to process live scans.

When? Unless it was recent it's not relevant.

What I find interesting is new apps are being delayed waiting for DOJ, I guess it's another story for renewals then, eh?

IMO it's complete BS for the background checks to take so long. Talk about asleep at the switch. Reads: poor resource management.

Is it of benefit to get non-resident ccw from another state prior to applying for CA CCW so that I can say on the application that I already have one? Does put me in a more positive light, or just a waste of time and money?

It's something that can be mentioned, and for all I know they ask that question, but they still have to build a case file and put everything in it for an application. If there's any relevance it's minor - remember, these other states don't recognize CA and CA doesn't recognize any of them. It's a two-way street I guess.

With a handful of carry permits in western states you can carry across most of the country - some 40 states give or take. My son in law is up on this if you want to inquire. I think OR requires you to show up, but easy to get otherwise. AZ is open or CCW, no permit. NV isn't hard to get and gives you a few other states. WA is also on their own but recognized by a bunch of other states. Go here and inquire:

BTW, some of them are cheap and easy to get, for example WA doesn't require any training. The advantage is reciprocity into other states. But you gotta find out which ones are reciprocal. Like although AZ doesn't require a permit, if you have one it is recognized in other states. I think UT is also fairly easy to get.

                                Hi guys,

Could really use some help. I submitted my renewal application yesterday as my permit expires in March of 2017. I received an e-mail back this morning asking for supporting documents for my good cause statement. What exactly are they looking for? My GC was short but to the point. Anyone able to assist via PM if they prefer? Maybe I need to have articulated my GC better?
