Finally happened boys picked up my permit yesterday!

11 months from start to finish.

          Rough timeline below

Request Interview 12/15 (set for 6/8/16)
          CCW Training 5/28/16
          Livescan 5/31/16
          Interview 6/8/16
          Residency Check 6/11/16
Didn't hear anything back for long time
Called on 11/3/16 to check on status
Given pick up appointment for 11/9/16

My only complaint about the whole process is that the officer they assigned to me only works one day a month...I feel like that had something to do with it taking so long.

Upwards of four months so you should be hearing something shortly. It would be reasonable to inquire now, considering how long it's been.

                      Question:

What is the basis for issuing and timeline for "Conditional Approval"? I see quite a few of you who had interviews after me and already have "Conditional Approval".

Is it after Live Scan results
                      Is it before
'Could' it be before live scan
'Could' it be after live scan
What could be the reason you received it prior to me or????

I received Conditional Approvals for further review twice. Once as a general follow up (I'm guessing after my good cause was officially accepted as sufficient), and once after my Livescan result wete received and they are awaiting Training Certificate.

I believe conditional approval is sent after Livescan has been completed and after acceptance of GC statement. The CA will spell out what needs to be completed (such as Training Cert) prior to CCW final appointment.

Unless they have changed, the conditional approval letter is usually send after approval of GC statement. Once you complete the training and live scan result comes back, OCSD will schedule another appointment for you to pick up your permit.

A brief overview for new members coming along here in the process...
Perhaps a little clarification on how it goes.

The 'initial interview' is an in-person interview with a OCSD application agent to review your application and verify it's content, and assemble/start your file. They also review your good cause statement. The interviewers (initial) seem to be fairly well versed with what is or isn't acceptable for good cause and will tell you then if it looks okay or if it may need something additional.

The final decision on your entire application however, including good cause, is the LT sheriff who final reviews and approves or denies the application file. Once this is complete they will request your training certificate if it's not already in the file and schedule your pickup date.

At your initial interview they will refer you for "Live Scan" and tell you a sheriff on duty will be stopping by your residence to confirm that indeed you do live there. Most anyone at the residence can verify that, or if no one is home may ask a neighbor to verify that you indeed live there. Not only do you have to have written proof of residency, like a vehicle registration or utility bill, but they physically verify that you really do live in the county.

"Live Scan" is the process of digitally scanning all 10 of your fingerprints by a DOJ approved scanning service and transmitting them to FBI and DOJ for a background check. Part of the background check is a weapons check/verification and has been the hold-up these past couple of years - it was a couple of months and then went to as long as four or five. Perhaps there was some kind of worker shortage or something as it seems like an unreasonable length of time for government service. As far as I know the FBI check comes back reasonably quickly, like within a few weeks.

I cannot imagine you're going to get any kind of 'conditional approval' from OCSD on a CCW application until they get your Live Scan results back. Perhaps some application agents are updating their applicants as the requirements for the application are completed. I only got one - when everything was done and they needed my training certification. As soon as it was submitted they scheduled my pickup date.

The 'conditional approval' is when your file is approved pending all of the required documents, especially your training certification. Generally they will ask you to bring the original certificate as final verification of such to the pickup appointment. There is no 'interview' on pickup, the final appointment. They retake your photo and make up the permit wallet card that you carry on your person. It lists your expiration date and the firearms you are authorized to carry - the ones you put on your app and qualified with.

Hope this helps clarify the steps in the application process.

It does help and thank you. I had a feeling that most of the early conditional approvals I was seeing posted were more of an update or proceed with next stage.
