I'm sure I will be corrected if I'm mistaken, lol, but it seems to me that the recent court decision hasn't had any effect on OCSD policy.

Supposedly no. Mostly because they started asking for additional GC prior to the decision. However, we've heard of a few more people than usual being told they need to beef up their GC.

Thanks for staying on top of this. I hope there is a steady stream of applicants. Surely it will be an issue in elections. I'm guessing that a steady stream of successful applicants translates to votes. Every time an applicant receives their CCW they are likely to say good things about the current sheriff to family and friends. Most of us that are active firearms enthusiasts are aware of current Second Amendment issues and realize our good fortune to live in Orange County. It is outrageous to realize that living on the other side of the county line means you are out of luck when it comes to your rights. How can a sheriff running for office in an adjacent county pass up this opportunity to get votes issuing licenses?

Nothing to substantiate it but I get the impression they're processing final approvals on a 60-day service level.

I posted a couple of months ago that I received a notice in the mail that I had to complete a psych eval in order continue the process. I scheduled it and had it a few weeks after posting. Some folks on here wanted me to post how it went. It was long and redundant. It's the same evaluation that Police and Sheriff recruits have to take, so everyone else in the waiting room with me were future cadets. The test was in Encino and was about 800 questions, a lot of them the same questions just re-worded. The test pretty much covers every aspect of your life. It took about 6hours to complete and when you're all don't with that you sit down with the Dr. for an hour or so and go over your answers. If i was to give advice to anyone having to take it, just be honest, take snacks and water.

With all that said, Today i received my conditional approval and will be taking the class.

                Timeline.

                Aug - request for interview
                Dec 14 - Interview
                Dec 15 - LiveScan
                Dec 17 - Resident Check
                March 21 - Psych Eval
                June 22 - Conditional Approval.

Bummer you had to go through it but glad it worked out.

Did you ever hear what caused you to have to take it, if you don't mind sharing?

I talked to the Sgt. of the CCW dept. he said it was either a random selection or something flagged it. But wouldn't tell me which one mine was or what may have flagged it if that was the case. So i have no clue.

                          CCW renewal good cause statement

After the June 9th ruling, has anyone in Orange County successfully renewed their CCW with a good cause statement that just lists self defense and safety? I used this good cause on my first application 1.5 years ago

You are going to have a new GC. Not as strict as it was before but you need to elaborate a little on why you need a CCW.

No. You need more. Read through the couple of OC threads and you'll get the idea.

Yea same here. Not even checking my emails. I called about 3 times with about 2 weeks in gap period, they all say the same thing, "final approval is on Lieutenants desk and waiting for approval". Wont even think about, time to buy ammo and my red dot and save up for the training.
