For folks pursuing CCW in LA, even though the latest Sheriff AV townhall doesn't mention CCW specifically, it does highlight the continuing drama between LASD and Board of Supervisors, regarding defunding vs high violent crime rates, homelessness, illegal dispensaries, and lack of staff and resources at LASD. I assume this drama is one reason why AV started loosening CCW good cause requirement this past year, and by the looks of it, will continue to to so. But as LASD receives more and more CCW applications, and making do with staff shortages, I assume we can expect longer and longer processing times:

My firearms portion has been done since 5/1. The only response I received from the CCW unit is that it could take a few weeks for DOJ to mail them results. Yet there are now 2 people I know of that interviewed and cleared livescan after me that have had their appointments to pick up their CCW.

Have any members that have been issued a CCW purchased insurance like USCCA, CCW Safe and US Lawshield? If so, please DM I would like to get a feel on what members are picking."Longevity remains a key characteristic of firearms- they last a long time, which means many of them will change hands." I am going with the basic level of USCCA. I think around $325 a year. Only difference between the 3 levels is more training, what I can see.

Curious how to go about it...
Hi all,
Firstly thank you for taking the time here. As a new-ish gun owner, I appreciate it. I've been lurking a bit and am finally deciding to post about my desire to obtain a CCW license.
To begin, the reason I want a CCW is because I often have to go to Downtown Los Angeles for both work and play. I am an attorney and (at least prior to the pandemic) regularly attended Court in Downtown. I have been accosted by homeless people at or around the court, twice. I suspect the situation will be even worse when we return to the courts in person.
When I go to court, I purposefully am put together. Nice watch, nice car, nice briefcase, nice suit, etc. It attracts attention - which is the goal - but some of the attention is not positive. From random people demanding I be there lawyer (the guy was just crazy) to another person just yelling at me (this guy was even crazier).
Further, a large chunk of my networking occurs in Downtown where a lot of lawyers and lawyer events are held. Again, everyone is trying to impress with their attire, automobiles, etc. and I've noticed the place has become uncomfortable at least as of 2019. Again, I assume parking and walking to a restaurant is even worse now days.
I am curious, do you guys think I have a shot at obtaining the CCW? I have other reasons but wanted to start here and see your opinions.
Thanks everyone!Comment

You will most likely be approved but I do not think you are allowed to carry into a courthouse. Also as someone mentioned, places where the primary purpose is to serve alcohol. Here is the law on government buildings: https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/f...ectionNum=171b
*Edit - I see the exemption under *171b(b)(3). It is the general exemption for carry permit holders in state courthouses; however one must not be "a party to an action pending before the court."Last edited by dazz397; 05-19-2021, 7:28 AM.LA County CCW Renewal
