I got the go to training email the same day my livescan completed. I emailed back to tell them I already completed it and they called me for pick up a week later.

Do you mind sharing that list? I am currently looking to get the required firearms training. Thanks.

I don't recommend taking the "fastest" and "cheapest" CCW trainer.
My wife and I took TRB in orange county at FT3 it was a 16 hour course, which is over the required 8 hours.

We've actually signed up for more training. After taking the CCW coursework, we now understand it does take a lot of training. We're signed up for advanced CCW courses with TRB, where they go over things like low light, transitional spaces shooting, shooting while sitting down or on your back.

Maybe many of you have CCW in other states in another time of your life, but this is our first venture and we highly recommend training with not just your firearm but all the gear you plan to have (holster, mag holder etc).

Some guys in our class this weekend during the live fire drill realized their holster sucks, or belt sucks etc.

How much of the course was around Concealed Carry theory and not practical shooting?

I am more interested in learning about the legalities of conceal carry than I am about using my gun. I'm a pretty accomplished practical marksman. I know very little about legal implications about carrying aside from commonsense stuff, which in California, I don't think applies.

The starter course, which every CCW holder has to go through, has about 10 hours of material they have to legally review. Think of someone who's never CCW before.

On the second day and the last few hours of the first day, TRB does review the laws of CCW from stepping onto federal grounds (post office) to choosing when you need to draw your firearm. Protecting life vs property. Castle Doctrine and Stand your Ground. I would imagine most courses go through this.

On the second day, there are live fire drills that I've never worked through and as I said the advanced CCW course - low light shooting, transitional shooting, shooting while sitting down (at a desk) shooting while you're on your back, moving targets (moving towards you as a threat)

That might have gone over my head ....but LA does allow for modifications on your CCW firearms.

My G19 that was certified has a Vortex Venom Red Dot with an aftermarket barrel/slide. Extend controls. Zev Trigger.

My understanding is no modifications (probably have a problem with the barrel, slide and trigger, but not the controls) or freedom week mags.

Ignore him. He's part of the peanut gallery that follows me around the interwebs. LOL

He shoots iron sights but doesn't remember what they look like. Much like a fat guy and his penis.

                              That has changed.

I believe we were the first class TRB certified w/ modifications done to our firearms for LA County.

Here's the email we have from LASD

                              Hello sir,

Firearms are allowed to be modified as long as they are California and federal law compliant. If you have any further questions you can email ccw_unit@lasd.org to get a more detailed response.

                              Respectfully,

                              Deputy Giron
