"I hike to high mountain regions to meditate with my guru and the area is crawling with hippie cholos that prey upon armed meditaters"." Please speed up my paperwork". This is all great intertainment but hey my brain has been on overload since Peruta won the 9th CA in 2013. Let's just stop the craziness. I'm not used to so much winning. Of course Sheriffs have sold favor with gun LTC since 1923 in California and it has been exposed many, many times. Let's keep holding their feet to the fire!

I've read that California will not accept online training, but I can't confirm.

That's what I'm confused about, but he is listed on the LASD site. He said the first 3 hours are zoom, then student online portal reading/test, then in person range etc...

I'll probably get some flak for this, but I emailed the CCW unit to ask about receipt of application and concern about the application being lost in the mail. My application was mailed at the end of June.

                They responded with,

"Your file has not been entered into our system yet but this does not mean we have not received it. We have many applications coming through and are working diligently to process them. Please allow 3-4 months, from date of submission, for your application to be entered into our system"

Nothing ground breaking, but wanted to share.

Yep, I used VIP for training. Instructor is a previous LEO. He held zoom classes teaching California law etc. Prior to shooting (live fire) at the range you're given a written test. After the test the instructor reviewed it with the students. Instructor was present at the range observing reloads, accuracy, range safety, etc. After live fire went back to classroom and competed the paperwork to be sent to LASD. Overall, very pleased with the VIP Program.

Like you I had heard nothing from the CCW Unit. I sent an email and asked for disposition of my application. I was very, very lucky. I didn't get a canned response. 13 months passed before any action on my CCW application. Someone actually responded and asked me to provide another electronic copy of my CCW application. Within ten days of providing the copy I received a call to schedule an interview. The fact is the CCW Unit is so overwhelmed with applications it's amazing they have issued as many as they have to date. You can say what you want about them being non responsive, denying your rights etc.! The fact is until LASD gets funding from the BOS nothing is going to change. It's evident the BOS are not supporting the Sheriff, yet the Sheriff is trying in earnest to support us.

Wow that sucks, but I'm glad they at least took the steps to make it easier for you to re-send a copy of your app via e-mail rather than have you 'snail mail' it again.

Although it sounds like a canned response, it looks like for the most part that they do check the status of your application process through some type of a computerized system when you inquire. Based off the responses from this thread, the beginning application process prior to contact for an interview looks like this:

"Your file has not been entered into our system yet but this does not mean we have not received it. We have many applications coming through and are working diligently to process them. Please allow 3-4 months, from date of submission, for your application to be entered into our system"

                              - Probably means that your application is either sitting in the mail room, or sitting on a pile of other applications waiting to be entered into the system

“Your application has been received. You will be contacted when your file has been assigned to an investigator. We are working diligently to process all applications and they will be assigned in the order received.”

-Means that your application has been officially acknowledged and inputted into the system pending assignment to an investigator

Curious to know how they go in order. It mentions that 'they will be assigned in the order received', but reading some of the comments here, it seems like some people who have submitted their applications after others have submitted have been contacted before them.

Given the suspect circumstances surrounding my initial denial for "lack of good cause" and the discrete unresponsiveness to phone calls and a certified letter petitioning for appeal or information regarding the grounds of the denial, submitting a new application was really the only path forward for me, barring legal action.

After NYSRPA was handed down and the AG's legal alert was sent out to all IAs in CA, I inquired as to whether, regarding my specific timeline, LASD would be re-visiting their decision in response to my initial application or if they will instead proceed with my March application. They responded by saying that my first application was denied based on policy prior to the SCOTUS decision and that, as of now, I would have to reapply. They also stated that, as I had already submitted a second application, they will be using that application to process.

Based on these interactions, I don't think that waiting 12 months to reapply was necessary in my case.
